Haha, well it's not exactly a palace downstairs so got to make the outdoor space a bit more usable! Kids are planning a boat warming party out at the weiti river mouth Beach tonight with all their mates. Not sure if I'm invited yet...
I'm just amazed that there is literally nothing online about these boats.

I just brought this little boat for the kids to play with.
I was told it was a moonraker 17 but on the trailer yacht association rating list they only have a moonraker 16 and 18 in that size.
There is another sister ship on trade me also listed as a moonraker 17.
Can't find much info online about them.
Can anyone shed some light on which one it might be and any other info. Seems like a pretty sweet little boat. Kids seem to be happy enough. Going to give it a test sail over the weekend.

Has anyone seen an explanation about the difference between the Mercs CAN rules and Barrier ?,
why is it ok to anchor and then ensure a clean anchor and chain at Mercs but there is no anchoring at all at Barrier ?
You can still anchor at lots of places at the barrier. Just the Bradshaw cove area, broken islands down to tryphena and whangapara is restricted. Fitzroy, angles cove, Catherine Bay, and the whole outside is still fine.

Mainsheet caught the boat owner Clive in a crash gybe.
Very sad news indeed.

Where is the boat currently registered?
You need to get a certificate of cancellation of the current registration and have that officially translated to english before you can register in NZ. That normally takes longer than the NZ registration. France for example needs the boats original registration document sent to France before they will cancel it. It's a major pain in the ass.
We contacted Maritime NZ early and had all the paperwork done so as soon as we sent the document they did it the same day.
We actually departed New Caledonia on the french registration and arrived here under NZ registration.

Have heard good things about Hayden Braddock - marine survey group.
Yup he's done all my surveys and pre purchase inspections and does a really good job.

Rogue split their main in 1/2...
Yup we had an awesome day out there but the old main finally gave in. We tried to carry on with just the jib but it was pretty slow so we decided to get home and pack it up before dark. Just a simple seam coming undone and a very easy fix. I have a new main half finished anyway as I knew that one was right at the end of its life.

Pretty sure you need to remove the cannister. They are usually more worried about it inflating in an overhead locker and blowing the locker apart!

That almost looks like a class legal 1020 genoa track there Cam.... 😆

Is it just me, or are we experiencing months of sh#t weather more than usual. Summer was a write off, and it doesn't seem to be getting much better, albeit winter approaching. It's probably as bad as it's always been - this is NZ, the land of four seasons in a day, but sheesh can't someone go for a sail and get some decent weather to get going, including the Solo Tasman guys / girl...
Ah well, I guess that is why we have some of the best racing sailors in the world...our weather demands it.
Yup totally. It's been a shocker.

Certainly a Massive boat party in Wynyard quarter....

Anyone else thinking of entering?
I'm going to chuck my entry in today.
What's not to like, free berthage in the viaduct for the weekend, party with a live band right beside the boats (Phil hart I believe), a fun race with hopefully a heap of boats and if it all goes well a real festive raft up party in wynyard quarter reminiscent of the old Sydney hobart and fastnet days where the boats all piled into whatever spot they could fit and rafted 20+boats deep. I think it's a cool concept.
Perfect weekend for me as I have sythony in the domain Saturday night (should be a truly epic event if the last one were anything to go by). Friday night rum race, event party in whnyard, short easy sailboat race, synthony then stay on the boat in town afterwards. Breakfast at wynyard quarter in sight of my boat, quick run through the Maritime museum then off home to the weiti river with a stop for a fish on the way.
For anybout of town boats especially, I reckon its going to make for a great boating weekend.

Top marks for that observation!
Its the Kinsman, David designed and built it for his brother Alan. My brother and sister in law have brought it have been giving it a birthday. Going back in the water shortly.
There is a other one that lives on the end of our wharf too.
