  1. I will go to Coppercoat next too. I only need about 5 litres
  2. No she is building a new small junk rig mono at norsand in Whangarei
  3. Any got something not too old they want to sell, thanks.
  4. If it works I would think that closed circuit keel cooling would be great with no salt water in the motor. Pumping clean coolant around only.
  5. Hi Greg were you looking for a 10 m cat still. I have just listed oryx on trademe. Might be cheap enough to rerig if you don’t want the junk rig style, although it does have advantages.
  6. Thanks looking like light winds next few days so I will be testing the outboard to get me back to Auckland. Launch tomorrow. Hopefully some breeze to learn how to sail the bi plane junk rig.
  7. Thanks I will have a go at the injectors over the next week or so
  8. Its a sail drive and that turns in neutral. Engine oil is clean looks like it was changed recently. Fuel tank was full of muck in the bottom. Would you try oil through the injectors first. The stop cock to the cooling water from tha sail drive is siezed shut.
  9. Lots like the 18 hp diesel in the cat I have bought is locked up. Can’t budge it with the crank handle. It’s been sitting on the hard for about 2 years so I guess that’s why. Am fitting an outboard to get going from Whangarei to Auckland but wondering if its worth trying to revive. I am thinking two outboard s in decent bracket s may be better. Is head off and crc in the pistons the first thing to try?
  10. I like to have a deck wash hose available near the cockpit. In the case of a fire inside at least you have a chance of putting it out from the companionway without going into the smoke. With an extinguisher you need to be pretty close to make a difference and if the boat is already full of smoke that may not be possible.
  11. I bought 5 cheap ones but only one has failed so far. The one that was out in the sun for a year. The four that are still in the box are lasting quite well!
  12. If I can put in a request its for sw 10 to 20 5 days a week because thats good for far side of barrier and north east 2 days a week for the return and a few days at tiri.
  13. You can buy Some stuff like that from $2 shops in rolls
  14. First I have heard of that. I have had Engels that have sat for a few years unused with no problems. Just bought a new waeco 50 from Australia was on special at Aldi for 599 and I expect it will be trouble free for ten years at least.
  15. If you are going 12 v don’t get a heat/cool type they are useless. I have had plenty of Engel waeco type 12 v compressor fridges and they have all been great and trouble free even some that are over 25 years old. Plenty available second hand too.
  16. Yes but in that case never been exported either so no fees on return from a trip overseas
  17. If you want to be bored you should find a couple of videos of the trip on YouTube look for wharram tiki 38 delivery but be warned its not flash
  18. We went around the top to Wellington about 3 weeks ago probably 5 miles off and in pretty mild conditions. Spent one night anchored near parengarenga harbour and then left early with light sw winds dropping to calms. Ended up motoring from about ahipara to New Plymouth. A few days later we would have had good northerlies but we didn’t want to wait.
  19. Boat theft doesn’t always get such low priority. We arrived late to our new to us boat on the tamaki river piles one night and were using torches to get ready for sleep as the lights were not working Some one thought we were thieves and rightly rang it in. Response was swift and included a helicopter overhead and about 3 cars on the riverside All good once I showed id and explained. We have been there for several years and never had anything go missing.
  20. Looks like it will make a pretty secure mooring for someone
  21. If you had a wet suit or survival suit it would help in those conditions.
  22. Look up pelagic pilots they look good.
  23. I had a basic st 2000 on a 36 ft Mitchell cat was fitted about 5ft along the tiller because that’s what was easy. Worked fine to keep course but i never tried to tack with it. Loads on the pilot were minimal.
