    Rum Race

http://crew.org.nz/forum/index.php/topic/16139-2018-rum-race-entries-open/ I guess maybe that answers some of the questions in the other thread!
  2. independent of the main point here, i really hope you've misplaced some zeros in those running costs!
  3. yeah interesting. slightly shorter than the waterline? i guess the scaling might be a bit off from smaller boats, given you want the draft to be reasonable.
  4. wow. seeing her craned off the ship is quite a sight.
  5. isn't $60k what it costs for a council to sneeze?
  6. A little daydreaming on a rainy morning. Has anyone ever arranged international freight/shipping for a dinghy, either from the states or aussie? If so, how did you do it, and what did it cost?
  7. of course, seeing this a while back reminds me of why the marinas are keen on big $ liability cover.
  8. yes interesting, esp since F3 is about the same $
  9. $200k in 1990 = ~$350k now.
  10. does seem like a lot of boat for the $. don't think i want to look up the rates for 18m berths though.

    beach cats

turns out I can't keep the mast up. so a, slightly revised question: which of the available beach cats is quickest and easiest to get going from mast down?
  12. I suspect that if you're patient there will be one that's more or less free if you take it away.

    beach cats

thanks, that's helpful. i'll have a suss of the clearances along the walk as far as keeping the mast up.

    beach cats

thanks. hobie 16s obviously meet b and c. i've never rigged one though. they look they take a good deal longer than something like a wave (boomless, main only -- just halyard up, hook on the main sheet and away you go.)

    beach cats

Can anyone give some advice on beach cats which are a) very quick to rig b ) decent to sail c) can be picked in reasonable nick for 5k or less ? I'm after something to keep half-rigged on the driveway, quick walk down to the beach, and away quickly with the (young) kids. I recently sailed a hobie wave, which put me on to this, but I don't see any for sale and 12k new is too much.
  16. continuing the drift, I doubt that 6l/nm is an issue if you can drop 2 mil on a boat. also, l/nm is a fantastically terrible set of units.

    Akarana 350

are they going to make it back before it gets horrible out there?
  18. ^^ this what i was thinking. the rig in the water can be kinda sticky though
  19. yeah someone's comment in another thread about 88s going for ~20 recently really brought home the reality of the current market.
  20. i seem to recall that this topic comes up from time to time. I suspect there are some old threads to be found.

did you also put in a gps tracker so that we know which bays to avoid?!
  22. i'd hazard a guess that increased costs are also a big factor. not as cheap to keep a piedy going as once it was.
  23. ah i wondered what was going on down there. seemed like a lot more than the usual activity!
  24. yeah i found the old thread actually. big mess. didn't see any blame attributed to CG, though...
