  1. Driving over the bridge this morning it looked as if maybe a boat had sunk on its mooring in shoal bay, fairly close in. Didn't get a good look though. Anyone know more?
  2. a wheel is ok if the boat is flat -- motoring, or running. tiller is way better for on the wind and reaching, imo.
  3. I agree. But it's interesting how this seems to be an NZ thing. The Europeans and Americans (and apparently aussies too) seem to like wheels on their 30 footers.
  4. They say the racing will be 4pm-6pm. If they actually stick to the window instead of screwing around with delays for hours and hours, I would think that arranging things with the port wouldn't be too tricky. I'm excited. A B & C will all be excellent. And I hope they don't use D/E much or at all.
  5. just to be clear, she's not mine. just saw it on TM and remembered that there had been a discussion here about how few come to market...

  7. Basic consideration on both sides would go a long way. Certainly not all of the noise and mess can be avoided, but tying up your halyards would be a basic and decent thing to do that costs you basically nothing.
  8. westhaven 24m @ $2300/month! so, yeah, nah -- rent a house.
  9. I often get the impression that if you ask the question "how much does a new keel cost?", the answer is "you don't want to know." That said, lots of people seem to have done this, so maybe you'll get an actual answer!
  10. I have wondered about the piedies at milford. Personally I'd go for the westhaven piles.
  11. brutal. most of the fleet with negative vmg! could you/would you anchor up?
  12. well, no, it needs to be increased, and almost everyone agrees. and most agree that the increase can't happen at the current location.
  13. presumably many users would charge often enough using shore power for this not to be a major?
  14. looks great. where do i sign up?

70 deg in calm water, yes. also interesting I thought that the 50 deg figure was "estimated" by the bridge crew, the instruments don't record beyond 35 deg.
  16. that whole area is marked foul ground in the RAYC handbook
  17. saw this on the RM site, re performance difference between single and twin keel: What are the differences in performance between a single and a twin keel RM ? VPP (polars) indicate differences of the order of 0.1 to 0.4 knots depending on the speeds and the wind in favour of a single In "speed tests" that we made with the two versions of the same boat, the single keel seemed slightly faster, but the difference was marginal. In terms of behaviour, it is extremely difficult to feel a difference, even for skippers and experienced professionals who have often been "impressed" by the twin kee
  18. yeah i think we were "lucky" that our power went out early, and so was at the front of the repair queue. out at 10pm back at 3am. seems like those that went out later have a long wait.
  19. Haven't seen any boats of their moorings at least. I guess maybe the relatively short duration helped on that front -- the big gusts really only lasted a couple of hours.
  20. oh yes they do look very cool, and you can get a fin if that's your preference. if i were in the market for a 200k 10m boat i'd definitely have a suss. i think most people have given up on the lifting board idea as it doesn't really open up that much territory around here. all those bays you're dreaming of still have launches in!
  21. no experience with these boats, but the basic mechanical problem is the same as it's ever been: all other things being equal, you can't get as much righting moment with twin keels as you can with a fin.
  22. wow. madness in oneroa...
  23. we got ICCs to charter in europe. easy. bit of a nuisance to renew every 5(?) years but it's just paperwork and money.
