  1. that would be fun to see at first, for sure, to see what they build. but the racing would probably be awful.
  2. Hm. There are lots of boats that satisfy almost all of the criteria, but I'm not too sure you can get something that will plane, and cruise to the islands, for 70k.
  3. we had a delta. worked well. if that's the size you want, i suspect you can get one pretty cheap.

  5. sure. but berths at those marinas are quite a lot cheaper than the (relatively) central akl ones...
  6. i'm thinking that it's rather far from population centres, though?
  7. yeah i reckon it's the big increase in marina costs that has really killed boat values over the last ~5 years.
  8. huh. sure looks like it should ship to NZ. might be worth following up w/ ebay...

I would think that if TNZ do win this one, it may well not be foiling cats next time...

    Lotus 9.2

absolutely true. on the other hand, if this sort of thing is not done well, it can be a disaster. that means the buyer really has to do his homework in order to figure out where on the gem-to-disaster spectrum a boat lies. that takes work, and hence why buyers tend to stick to class boats...
  12. Tidal atlas for the Hauraki Gulf and Greater Cook Straight, ed: R Garrett. I also only have high tide to high tide + 5. I think the idea is to reverse the charts for the incoming cycle?
  13. i would think 25' minimum for 4 people for those periods. not sure that 15k will get you a decent TS in that range, though a quick look at trademe suggests it's not impossible. i'm sure others will weigh in on specific models.
  14. how long are you planning to be out? e.g. day sailing, overnight, week-long?

well, the *camera* went under anyhow. not quite the same thing.
  16. there's nothing in this thread to discourage buyers, really. yes, there are lots of sellers complaining, but that's just because it's a buyer's market!
  17. aside from whether or not it's allowed, anywhere close to the city that's outside of a marina is going to be subject to all the fast ferry/container ship/etc wakes going past at all hours. they can be fairly unpleasant just folding up the sails, much less living aboard. i suppose it depends on what you're used to, though.
  18. are there places other than the marinas where it's actually allowed? i'd always been under the impression that living aboard outside the marinas was illegal, if occasionally tolerated.
