tuffyluffy 76
Update from Alan Sefton for those interested One Ton Revisited 2015 Hi Folks Apologies for the slack communication of late. Rest assured, though, we have been far from idle at this end and, despite some frustrations, are making real progress towards a memorable inaugural event in February/March, 2015. Entries We have a list of would-be entrants asking questions and seeking clarifications on items such as advertising and as to whether their boat(s) will be eligible. But, only two owners have so far officially entered. They are.- 1: Britain’s Nigel Biggs with his 1988 Briand design Checkmate XV1 (formerly Monaco) 2: New Zealand’s Chris Bouzaid with his 1966 S&S design Rainbow II This is one of the frustrations as we know there are considerably more entries out there but, people, particularly from New Zealand and Australia, are not going to pay their money until they have to and the entry deadline is not until 30 August, 2014. Difficult as it is, we will just have to be patient. Shipping This has been taking up most of our time and, with help from a number of shipping brokers, agents and even local managers of international shipping lines, we are still working hard at achieving a meaningful shipping accommodation. We will keep at this until something finally breaks loose or we run completely out of ideas. As of today, the best we have been able to achieve are the following guide quotes (that will vary from boat to boat, depending on dimensions).- Maersk (see attached) UK - Europe / Auckland roundtrip: US$ 45,000 Charleston / Auckland / Chas: US$ 26,000 Aust / Auckland / Aust: US$ 33,000 There could be customs clearance/MAF etc charges on top so maybe factor in $2K per boat for ancillary charges. Insurance would be on top of course. Seatrade (see attached) Radicatel or Antwerp or Zeebrugge to Tauranga or Auckland & Return $US 51,346 (including NZ charges) If anyone has ideas and/or suggestions on how we can improve on this, please let us know. Berthage in Auckland We can, at long last, confirm that the One Ton Revisited fleet will be berthed in the Viaduct Basin, at the waterfront events harbour at the foot of Auckland’s CBD. We will be there with the Volvo Round the World race fleet and will be an important element in the Festival of Sail that is being created around the stopover. The organisers of the stopover are projecting that in excess of 400,000 people will visit the basin while the two fleets are in residence. Festival Of Sail Racing We are discussing, with the Volvo Stopover organisers, the possibility of the One Ton Revisited fleet competing as a division in the four races that will be staged in and around Auckland harbour in the three days leading up to the Volvo fleet’s 15 March departure for Cape Horn. The likely schedule would involve pro-am races around the harbour on Thursday, 12 March (1), Friday, 13 March (2) and the fleet’s in-port race on Saturday, 14 March. We would make these races meaningful for the One Ton Revisited fleet with special trophies and prizes but, they would also provide an opportunity for VIP guest servicing etc. The in-port race on 14 March will be televised live and there will be (at least) highlights television coverage of the pro-am races. One Ton Revisited Prizegiving We are planning a public, informal dockside prize giving in the Viaduct Basin when the One Ton fleet docks there after the final race of One Ton Revisited on 7 March, 2015. It is now probable that there will also be a formal prize giving as the feature of a gala occasion that will also be a fundraiser for the Rotary of St Johns initiative, in conjunction with Yachting New Zealand, to provide overseas regatta experience for emerging sailing talent. This initiative has already proved its worth in nurturing emerging talent and we are delighted to be given the opportunity to help their cause while also staging a festival finish to our event. A Dedicated “One Ton Revisited” YouTube Channel Besides tapping into broadcast distribution of news updates and video coverage for television, we will build a dedicated “One Ton Revisited” YouTube Channel for optimum coverage of the inaugural event. This Channel will provide the opportunity to reach both a commercial market and a targeted audience. On-line VOD (video on demand) places the power of managing and controlling media-output in the hands of the event management. It will help strengthen our presence and Brand, increase and create promotional opportunities while establishing two-way communications with viewers. There’s no TV deals needed. We become our own broadcaster and we control everything that goes out. Media sources will often download from the Channel to incorporate the video action and stories we produce. YouTube is by far the most followed on-line medium in all genre of video from lifestyle, to Sports. YouTube coverage of the America’s Cup 34 in San Francisco identified a large, on-line, international audience (in the tens of millions) for prestige yacht racing and the One Ton Revisited regatta plans to tap into the same audience. That means increased exposure and good will for our sponsors and suppliers. The Revisited Channel will pick up pace as the event draws nearer and will hit top gear with the welcome cocktail party and the celebrity races on Auckland harbour, and then the serious racing and, finally, the prize givings. Guest
wow thats going to be so cool, does anyone know of a one tonner in NZ that could be chartered, even if needs lots of work ? do boats like Farr 1104 qualify?
Quarterback 1
You could give Bris Woods a call at Protective Paints East Tamaki. He has Rockie Farr 1104 in storage.

ex Elly 197
7 entries so far. One from Germany. Late entries will be accepted. More here: http://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/2014/ ... d-regatta/
Guest
C'mon folks, it is time to be getting boats organised for this regatta. For those of you who drool over the Med regattas, or the Millenium Cup, this is a unique opportunity to create the same atmosphere in our own backyard. Anyone with a Cav 36 should be entered. Same with an 1104. If someone in your club or marina finger is an owner, press gang them to get involved! Will - you should be getting Berenice up for this. She was designed as a one tonner. Getting an IRC certificate can be simple. I'm happy to provide advice as required. Jono Jonathan Gravit 0274 754
Battleship 100
Hi Jono was pretty keen to race Berenice in this one but had to much on to organize it all before the cut of date at the end of August, and the extra $1000 for a late entry stings a bit. Perhaps if there was some leeway as most races, (I know this one is pretty special) have a standard entry cut off much closer to the actual race date.
Battleship 100
I'll answer myself, after a bit of research I found an amendment, looks like we will be in. "The Entry Deadline is amended to Friday 19th September 2014 and the late entry fee is amended to 10% of the entry fee added to the entry fee making a total of NZD $1100.00." Battleship 100
Jono do you know of any IRC measurers in Tga?
Ed 143
IRC measurer.... Do you really need an endorsed IRC cert for what is basically a classic's event, surely self declaration would be sufficient?
sow1ld 2
Dam was so keen to do this but it clashes with the central triangle!
Ed 143
Looking at the nor and the rules, you need to have been a rated boat. If they are short of entries I wonder if this will get loosened to boats that were designed For the rule, like the 1104 and cav36, but never actually got a formal rating from rorc or ior
Battleship 100
Pretty sure the Cav36 had a rating Mohaka competed in the trials. As for the IRC, just my opinion but I think they are trying to run a world class event , with boats spending the dollars to ship from overseas I would expect a fully measured IRC cert. Maybe someone can clarify?
