Guest
The regatta is to celebrate One Ton Cup yachts of all vintages. As long as your design either competed in a One Ton Cup, or was designed to the relevant IOR / RORC rule, it is eligible. So - any Farr 1104 or Cav 36 is eligible as they were out of a One Ton design mould. The old RORC One tonners, Skinflint, Conchord, Rebel, are all ok, as they were designed to the RORC rule to try and beat Rainbow. Berenice and Skedaddler will be eligible as they were designed to the One Ton 30.5 rule, even though they didn't compete in a One Ton Cup. The Moonlight Townson design is eligible but the Townson 34/36 aren't As it is in NZ, the organising committee has allowed unendorsed IRC certificates to be used for this regatta. This makes it easier and cheaper for owners to get involved. However, those who make the effort to get their boat fully measured will be rewarded with a lower handicap. Most people find the hardest bit the weigh in. Mel at RNZYS is getting a group weigh expression of interest going. Will - talk to Bruce. I've worked with him on boat weighs in the past, and can sort out other measurements if you wish to get an endorsed certificate. For any owner thinking about it, I suggest downloading the IRC application form and FAQs. Get a copy of the 2014 IRC handbook from Kelly at YNZ. Apply for an unendorsed certificate before the Coastal Classic or Gold Cup. Then if you choose to move to an endorsed certificate, you can get the measurements done by an approved measurer, and apply for an amended cerificate. I'm looking after the IRC measuring up North, and Martin is available. Burtie or Edmund Tam are available for Wellington / Sth Island The larger sailmakers can measure your sails for an endosed cert and an IRC / One Ton Cup / Sail measuring night will be held at RNZYS in October. Find reasons to compete, not excuses not to! The entry fee incorporates the off water events so you and your crew will eat and drink that much through the week! The Volvo is on at the same time, so lots of cool boats in town. The old guard of Auckland sailing are putting a great event together both on and off the water. There will be blazers and cocktails, as well as t shirts and pints. For those who haven't been to a offshore keelboat regatta, this is a great opportunity to experience this style of racing on your back door step.
Xntrix 0
We def need more entry's as we need more boats to beat. No point winning the one ton cup, only to have to tell people there were only 6 other boats racing. Seriously, it will be an awesome event and a good chance to prove the performance of these cool old yachts. From our experience there is a heap of great sailors that would love to do this regatta so crew shouldn't be a problem, and because of the coverage and placement in the viaduct with the VO65s you should to be able to get a sponsor for the entry at least. Guest
I heard today about overseas based Kiwis tracking down famous NZ One Tonners sold overseas and are planning to bring them to NZ to compete. Not confirmed yet, but very likely.
