Volvo only hours away now.

Anyone know if they'll have the full dock-out ceremony prior to the 0900 start tomorrow?

From the photos on the webpage it looks like they went ahead with the official leaving ceremony on Sunday without advising the public.  The only info I could find for the day was that the race village was closed.

Fairly poor comms from them I think.

before the "delays" i think the boats were due to dock out at noon for a race start of 2pm

and then it was up to north head, back to viaduct, back to north head, up rangi channel and away

how much of that is still on?

hoping to be out there to watch them

Word on the street is they flagged the round the marks bit of the departure and are gonna start and get straight outa here, I'm assuming Rangitoto still to starboard.... most of the media have gone and I bet the teams are keen to get cracking. Agree, could have been communicated better in the release.

current metsevice forecast says

Wednesday : Southerly 15 knots easing to southeast 10 knots early morning and to variable 5 knots late morning. Southerly 10 knots developing in the evening. Sea slight. Fine spells, possible isolated shower late evening.

so i guess it makes sense to get out quick and catch the winds before they die away

but they've only themselves to blame if there are only a few to see them off

just back from seeing them off

dong looking good

fair few boats out there

respectable enough muster considering it was a weekday morning and even people who knew crew seemed to be expecting a turning mark at north head

abu dabi pulled a nice early tack at north head that moved them for 4th? to 2nd

hopefully will be able to add some pics later on

Great Pics SD, thanks.

AM, how come you are always so negative? Try to look on the bright side for once - the race came here, 10's of thousands came thru the race village, including tourists. There was a smallish fleet for the send off, but it ended up being a working day.

In the end it was a good worthwhile event (the Auckland Stopover, AND the race general) IMO. Be happy :-)

Indeed - or that 30nm NE of Whitianga, or Cook St. have anything to do with Auckland.

Awesome pics Phil - those sailors must just love getting out of port and the circus to sail those machines - they really look awesome powered up
