Southern Straits 2015

So tomorrow marks the start of the long distance racing here in Vancouver, and with that, our build up on Papillon to the 2015 VanIsle 360 (more about that later).

This years Southern Straits is the 47th consecutive year of the race running, with 92 boats taking part over 4 courses. Papillon will be on the Long Course, 138nm around the Strait of Georgia.

Forecast for the next couple of days is south-west to south-east, 20 kts dying tomorrow and in to Saturday, with what looks to be like quite a lot of good old west coast rain, so it's going to be a tough couple of days, with some nice breeze hopefully. Looking like a kite ride up to the Sisters, then a long starboard beat back towards the airport (and past) then a kite run back up to Halibut bank and a power reach across to the finish.

Papillon is an Aerodyne 38 based out of West Vancouver Yacht Club, a great downwind boat and a lot of fun to sail. The crew are building up to the VanIsle 360 in June, which is a lap of Vancouver Island, taking 2 weeks, and 10 legs.

Trackers for the weekends race can be found here is anyone is interested in checking it out:

I'll try and put some sort of report together next week while I'm travelling for work.

Cheers,

Ben
