Ok, quick check on the Lowrance. it has two NMEA 0183 ports, supporting both send and receive, and one NMEA 2000 port.

Com I Yellow is transmit and Orange is receive,

Com 2 Blue is transmit and Green is receive.

Of course the transmit on one device goes to the send on the other, and vice versa. You also need to configure the ports - Baud rate, send or receive, what sentences (NMEA info) do you want to send and receive etc.

Its in the manual, but if you need someone to do it, I'd be happy to sort it for you?

What exactly are you trying to do?

Yes, you could willow, and that would be a good solution. But all the nmea takes is 2 wire connections and a minute or two setup. No $ involved. If the Nexus install includes the server, there is already a PC port, 2 NMEA 0183 ports, and a network port - 4 wires, could be nmea2000? I'd need to research that.

Again, it depends on what is intended by the interface etc.

Yep, nmea 2000 is good. Provides the end user with a single plug, where nmea0183 you have to deal with individual wires. But the real advantage of nmea2000 is speed and its ability to share a data source with many other devices. Nmea0183 is limited to 3 listeners for each talker, so it's network abilities are quite limited without additional specialist devices.

However, in this case, to simply connect the instruments to the plotter, I'd use what's there, unless there is more to the requirements than is asked in the original post.

I have a Lowrance 520c CP talking to a Nexus Server(wind, log, compass)with a Simrad TP32 AP utilising the 0183 between CP and Nexus and the 2000 between CP and AP. All works well with the AP controlled by the Nexus steer to wind I.e. Nexus>0183>CP>2000>AP.

The only issue to watch for on the 0183 network in the nexus is a differential circuit ( Tx +/- Rx +/-)whereas the CP is single ended(Tx+ common- Rx+) ?

Yes I still have the server, but unfortunately with Nexus stuff I cannot say if it is working the way it should be. An electronics fiddler with time and patience may be able to sort it out.

I have available a full Nexus system and somebody with electronic/electrical skills could well be able to figure it out.

Available is

- Masthead wind gear - wireless

- Through hull transducer - Airmar Triducer

- Nexus server

- Nexus NX2 wind

- Nexus NX2 Speed & Depth

all of varying ages as bits that fail have been replaced.

I'd be happy to do a deal on the B&G Triton gear (or any other B&G or Navico stuff ) for any crew.org member. I'll beat any genuine price from any other NZ source. I'll try to beat any offshore price as well...

Send me a PM, or call on 0221539176

Cheers

Matt
