SSANZ 2017 RNI

Recommended Posts

Hi again,

Entries have now been open a week and we have 20 entrants, some repeat offenders, some yachts back with new crew, some crew with new yachts, plus our first Australian entrant.

The yachts get bigger every time which makes the job of finding berthage harder but our team in Wellington have confirmed that they are able to accommodate 30 plus yachts in Chafers Marina with the possibility of overflow berthage at Queens Wharf.

Depth into Napier's Inner Harbour will be an issue again with some only able to enter at the top of the tide and we will possibly need to put the deepest draft yachts at the commercial  wharf.

Westhaven Marina are keen to assist with marina berths for any entrant needing help, but as only some will need this its up to you to arrange berthage prior to and after the race.

If you require any further assistance then feel free to contact me.

And if you no longer wish to be kept on this email list then please let me know.

Talk soon

Obviously lots of sailors have amnesia. Good luck to all -fantastic list of entries so far. Great to see Ian back for another go in his new Mull 9.5. Nonstop not coming to play- we will be doing the RSI (Round South Island)- will be starting our cruising around then and planning to head to Stewart Island and Fiordland first, before we head up to Northland for the winter.

With age comes wisdom! oh and an innersprung mattress in the quarter berth, and an eberspacher heater.

Pretty sure we have the best sails on any cruising boat in this neck of the woods too!

Looking forward to palm trees the following winter.

Sounds good Pete

We are planning palm trees again probably 2018 or 19

We don't have a heater as such but 4 AIrcon/heat pumps will have to suffice

E770 doesn't comply on lenght over all and the Designer has previously stated that the design isn't upto Cat 2, it was only designed as a trailer yacht that the NZ version had a keel fitted, in Aus they are considered light trailer yachts

The Tasman and Cook Straight shouldn't be underestimated or any other part of our exposed coast.

On a more positive note there is still room for more smaller keelers but we have mostly filled our capacity for larger ones

32 now

We will keep entries open a little longer as more berthage in Wellington is looking likely, Napier will still be an issue but mostly the depth more than berths

A couple of the entries aren't confirmed yet so if your thinking of doing this race then be quick.

We can put really deep drafted boats over at the commercial wharf but to get into the Marina it's only about 2m or less at low tide plus about 1.5m of tide on average

The commercial wharf is is just that with no facilities so not ideal.

But it can silt up with not much warning so any boats around the 3m plus mark will have to time their finish for high tide and preferably daylight we like the best.

Some of the fleet always have to wait off before entering but I'll warn them in Wellington before the leg starts of the time they should finish, but some always don't listen and finish at the wrong time.

Then the restart will also be timed around the tide for all the above reasons
