smithy09 50
The Marshall has a few carbon bits outside that are deteriorating and the outer coat is pealing off. How do you prepare and re-coat this? Is there a special UV resistant epoxy? Can you just sand it back then brush on the resin? Any advise appreciated! Thanks.
Marshy 30
I can check with FOC but i think they were Durapox'd to start with - so a light sand back and re-coat...

smithy09 50
Interesting - is that as UV resistant to the underlying carbon as opposed to putting a 2 pot white on ? No idea Paul. Just the answer I got from the guys at Adhesive technologies. Who wants white anyway???? Bling rules!!
smithy09 50
What brand did you use? International Perfection plus. I asked about using 207 West system hardener which is UV resistant but they reckoned 2 pot polyurethane was better..
Battleship 100
Awlood ma works really well, should outlast perfection especially on something that is subject to a bit of flex, a bit pricey mind you.
mattm 98
Paul- I got a Gennaker prod from Ctech about a year ago. I asked for clear coat and they said they don't recommend it as the carbon won't last as long, and gave me a choice or black or white. I clear coated a mast a few years before that and was recommended a Carboline product as providing the best uv available in clear, sold the boat before I really got to find out, seemed pricey also. 1paulg 17
KM - think your are right - it is the resin that breaks down. I have a carbon rig that is 10 yrs old and painted white and looks mint - if it is an item that is easy to redo and you want bling then clear cote is fine but for bigger items like a rig I wouldn't take the chance.. wheels 543
Yep it's just Carbon. If you put it under a lot of pressure while applying a lot of heat, you will end up with a Diamond.
Marshy 30
dont tell any raceboat owners wife that or the country will run out of heatguns and clamps!!
