vic008 17
Thanks for all that. Now I had hoped to go up mast via the anchor winch but the 60a breaker tripped out quick. 600-800watt old NZ winch. 2;1 purchase on the halyard. So to go up mast do I need a gruntier winch or do I need a bigger circuit breaker? Thank you
Island Time 1,235
Bigger circuit breaker. Also note lower voltage equals more amps. Cables and terminals must be in good order, and battery charged.
wheels 543
Yes that is too small a breaker. I am surprised you don't trip it more often. At 800W, you are likely drawing right on the 60A mark all the time. As IT said, lower Voltage, the motor tries to drag in more current. If the cable is heavy enough and the battery Voltage was at 13.8V with the motor running, then the Amps pulled would be about 57A (800W motor), But if you try winching with batteries at 12.5V, then you are going to be about 63A of draw. That climbs as the batteries continue to drop.
