AC day 4

Recommended Posts

Just rewatched today's race and my uneducated guess is that they were trying either different rudders or a different rudder setup

Commentators said they were using the same rudders but I believe there isn't a limit to the number of rudders so how could they tell from looking at the screen and I'm sure they are all trialling different setups or at least the ones that are going to be n the hunt

A few questions and observations that someone may be able to comment on:

Rig tension - side stays they don't appear to be particularly tight ?

Mainsheet - looks as though loads are not that high - on the boats with ropes/winches the trimmer does not wear gloves and the helmsman also seems to easily hold the sheet during gybes.

Jib sheet - who controls that and how - is there a winch ?

In the last race when ETNZ crashed and rudders let go what was the risk of a capsize ?

In practice ETNZ sometimes sailed without a jib - any comments on that ?
