MarkMT 68
Just released, not a lot of info really, more an announcement of an announcement - http://bit.ly/2u6tGQD Looking at early 2021 in Auckland with "constructed in country" and crew nationality rules. Nothing too surprising. Details in September.
madyottie 82
I can't get my head around the Construction in Country clause. Surely NZ would benefit more from foreign syndicates building here? Hoping they keep a world series happening, with possibly one in Christchurch. Make it the last one before the LV qualifiers, then it's just a quick trip back to Auckland. ScottiE 174
Nah - on balance NZ will be much better off with a much larger number of teams participating. Besides ETNZ owes NZ nothing - "we" weren't prepared to back the campaign - remember!
erice 732
The country of origin for the boat is just hype it up marketing. The event just run had the same rule and all that meant was the front 3mts of each bow had to be build in the country of the challenging club. Hardly onerous or something any yacht club in the world couldn't easily do. i think wussel + oracle watered down the cic rule to something like 30%? which basically seemed to mean, just the lightly stressed bows (this was great for warkworth + nz by the way as everyone but etnz bought the platform package built by core) (etnz + southern spars had a secret build recipe which allowed them to come in at 100kg under everyone else....much to the disgust of everyone else who tried to vote a rule change to make etnz add 100kg of lead...etnz lawyers said see you in court...you'll lose like last time....so that idea died...) my understanding is that the new cic rule will be much higher than 30?% ....have southern kept their recipe secret?) ex Elly 197
No, in the last cup it wasn't a percentage, it was the front 2.7m of the bow. http://www.sail-world.com/NZ/Americas-Cup---Constructed-in-Country-almost-wiped-in-new-Protocol/137604
ScottiE 174
that'll be these bits that we hid from the world!
MarkMT 68
Proposal to build team bases at Westhaven - http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11897235 Looks kind of a tight fit to me.
MarkMT 68
Should mention that the proposal is not from ETNZ.
ScottiE 174
no chance they'd make that option 1 work within the original footprint proposed by Panuku

erice 732
Dalton said there is a deadline of August 30 next year to decide whether Auckland will be ready to host the event. "The only reason we went to the America's Cup was to bring it back here. We're really clear about that, this is where we want to hold it but we've got nothing in place yet. "I think it's only responsible for the challengers if there is a natural disaster or whatever happens that we couldn't hold it here. "Rather than finding out next year that it's got to be shopped out all over the place to try and find a venue, we say 'if for whatever reason it can't be in Auckland, which is the intention, absolutely the intention, it will go to Italy." Deep Purple 511
Fair enough, if Auckland can’t get its sh*t together, nowhere else will either. I think it’s a good bargaining tactic for both local and central government
Dambo 44
I hope they extend Halsey Wharf, but do it properly so the space can be used in the future for superyachts and other events. (and don't touch Westhaven)
Deep Purple 511
In 4 years? not a chance The only option that’s going to work is barges
MarkMT 68
Two boats allowed but no 2 boat testing??
ex TL systems 63
Exciting news maybe someone could pin the notice with all the proposed dates at the top of the cup talk forum? Be good to be out on the water to watch some of the early training action if it is in Auckland
Deep Purple 511
From what I heard they are going to be pretty cool
ex TL systems 63
There is Okahu bay near the city that will be vacant soon, new breakwater and a bit of dredging and landfill, close to the racing , perfect as a base for AC 36, and who would possibly object to that? rigger 47
SD you might be on to it with barges. Each team gets a barge, could be shifted as required. Another suggestion was charter semi sub ships and use as a base, bonus being they could do double duty, inport as base, on course as spectator / sponsors platform. The enclosed side type with removable upper deck hatches could be interesting. Some have cranes so there's your lifting gear for getting boats out of the water....
