help needed! mariner kero cooker/oven

Recommended Posts

gauge could be temp. or pressure

does it have any units on the scale?

does it move when you pump?

does it move when oven going?

the front of the stove in pic doesn't seem to show a valve...

if it is a tank pressure relief valve does it hiss when opened after pumping?

I bought a packet of about 50 of those little tea light candles for a few dollars haven’t tried it yet but i would think burning 5 or 10 of them safely in a pot or similar would help heating in a small boat with adequate ventilation Not much of a financial commitment to find out.

Ummm. The interior of your vessel will turn black.. slowly but surely.. and so will your lungs :(

Do not do it.. Please....

Tis the soot.. Candles are a very inefficient way of burning fuel.

or make an alcohol stove out of a beer can

blue burn is GOOD

and burn meths

(methylated spirits for americans, sepporated by a common language )

but don't fall asleep without a hatch open

and put it in a clay pot

in case it falls over

These things are awesome and surprisingly easy and rewarding to make. a good pocket knife and a six pack is all you need. A ruler helps.

Also you get to drink at least two beers to make one.

...Actually the more I think about it, the more beers you drink while making them, the more beers you have to drink 'cause you keep wrecking the next can...

Like with any fuel burning stove , make sure you have good ventilation (and dont use it as an overnight heater).

Overtime kero burning will give your boat a distinct smell. Most owners dont notice it..

You can now get diesel heaters (external flue, blower types for under $300 !!) There are thousands of them being made in China and are basically webasco copies.

And to to the tilley lantern heaters.....beware !!  the original mantels of the heaters are asbestos.

(I collect Tilley lamps  : )   )

Idler each to his own.

Chinese and 300 bucks is definitely not the way to go just cheap crap with all the usual lack of warranty and support.

Sticking with my Tilley and if asbestos is your worry what do you think municipal water supply pipes are made of.
