MarkMT 68
Final results ahead of the Worlds starting on Saturday - https://www.mysailingclub.com.au/DisplayResults/DisplayPublicSeriesResults?Id=330&Id2=2018%20A-Cat%20Australians Glenn Ashby continues to crush the competition - netting 6 points from 7 races. Peter Burling 2nd and Blair Tuke 8th. A good sprinkling of other Kiwis further back. BTW I can't help noticing... for all the talk about the Olympic mixed multihull bringing more women into the sport, here in one of the strongest grass-roots classes there are 2 women in a fleet of 60, next week for the Worlds it will be 3 of 64 in the open division, another 2 of 43 in the (non-foiling) classic division. Fish 0
So just for us that aren't familiar with what an A class cat is, a quick google appears to show a single handed, foiling cat with a single tall and powerful looking sail, and a trapeze. That must be a piece of piss to sail. I mean lining one of those up in a fleet, nailing the start, spotting the wind shifts, working the tactics out, choosing the right side of the course, forcing errors on your opponents, keeping it foiling, not falling off the trapeze, that must all be about as easy as Optimist racing, no challenge at all, kids could do it..... Looks like Glen Ashby could win a race with his eyes shut.
MarkMT 68
Yep, my best guess is that he's actually a cyborg. 9 of his 13 world championships have been in the A class.
