MarkMT 68
.............people moved on Are you saying the class died? I see no nationals since 2016. What happened?
GregW 17
By way of context: As the class expanded in the late 2000s interest was shown by Aussie sailors and designers. Boats by Grainger, Pescott and Stanton (who I think is a kiwi) were drawn. There was some talk of potential for inter-dominion contests etc, which was complicated by some people (on both sides of the ditch) wanting to have taller rigs. It could have been really interesting but it never gelled and interest from overseas fizzled out. Thats what I meant by 'people moved on'. I don't think the class is dead, merely fewer boats being raced at the moment, and of course some boats have gone overseas. There are still a few modded GBEs out there and they are pretty cheap now. I think its just a matter of time before a few of these get spruced up and get out there again. They are probably the ideal syndicate racer. Someone like Ed is better placed to comment on the current fleet.
