splat 55
Anyone see any "do not go there" known issues with the above combos?
Island Time 1,235
It’ll work fine. But you’ll have to program via a pc first. Why use that particular model?
splat 55
So IT B&G unit would be plug and play? Could you please expand on the need to program via pc?
splat 55
Assume it simply is vessel details etc...whereas B&G programmed from linked MFD or compatible instrument?
Island Time 1,235
Yep, that's about it.
Adrianp 120
Is there any benefit to sailors from the newer SOTDMA AIS units? The increased transmit frequency won't affect normal sailors who will be doing less than 14knots boat speed but the 5w transmit looks appealing over the 2w of normal units. Kick Ass 47
Why not use the ais for B&G?

See this article I did a while ago. http://crew.org.nz/forum/index.php/topic/15622-developments-in-ais/?fromsearch=1Mostly better for offshore boats....
Island Time 1,235
Also, if it's just price, I can do a B&G nais 500 transponder, with external gps antenna, for $999 incl gst.
