dutyfree 170
I have had an encounter with them on the San Francisco harbour during fleet week. You do not want to mess with them, especially when they come at you with their craft with its bow mounted machine gun.
Black Panther 1,584
They boarded and searched my boat in the Windward Passage. I thought it funny they asked permission to come aboard. 8 guys with machine guns i didn't feel i had the option to decline.
Luigi Vercotti 7
They were a pain in the arse on Lake Erie. Used to keep pulling us over for staff training. They do a good job of enforcing the rules of the water though. Issuing speeding tickets checking if carrying life jackets, fire extinguishers, intoxicated skipper etc. Once pulled me over for a nav light being out and we're very polite and helpful. The big T 41
Pondering on the rail today - what right did the US Coastguard have to pull this over in international waters? Which I understand it was.

Black Panther 1,584
I was boarded by them in nternational waters sailing away from the US.
Island Time 1,235
That’s interesting BP, my understanding is that they need the flag state to agree to that. Does the nz government have a standing agreement for that?
Black Panther 1,584
I asked qhat would've happened if i said no. They said they would ring the nz embassy in Washington and get permission anyway. Which implies they didn't have it at the time. I also asked what they were looking for. I was told Haitians. When i mentioned i was pointed towards haiti and very few Haitians were being smuggled into Haiti they then said they had been out there for a number of weeks and were bored.
