darkside 18
Thanks. Saw the support boats yesterday and wondered. I asked some of the team at the bar after the show but they weren't saying. Might head out for a look.
funlovincriminal 28
She's out off Narrowneck - parked at the moment but been stooging about at pace for a while beforehand.
DrWatson 222
So what do we think the top speeds might be for these things? Or average speeds (up and down wind VMG) And what is the potential to scale up even further, to, say 200ft?
Island Time 780
Seems she was doing mid 20’s in 7 knots the other day. I reckon we’ll see 55 knots before the end of the cup. They sure are impressive bits of engineering.also, the races will be on foils 100% of the time for the winner.....
Clipper 195
55 is a big call! They often seem to struggle to get past 50 with ‘normal’ foils, but i agree re 100 % foiling.

One of their preferred training areas is down south of Surfdale in the stretch between Waiheke and Beachlands - the other day it would have been definitely no more than 7-10 knots and the speed would have to been in the high 20’s I would have thought - looked impressive through the telescope . Foiling through tacks in that little wind takes a bit of getting used to getting you head around for a monohull . The loads on the foils as the wind build must be immense when the boat speed starts approaching the 40s in fresher wind .
waikiore 66
She came to a stop for a while down there, in relatively shallow water - I hope they didnt feel the bottom.
