pistel 0
Hi there, I’m trying to get my hands on a sewing machine that can handle canvas, without losing an arm. Don Casey recommends that it should be able to make 6mm stitches, easily go through 6 layers of canvas, and take #20 needles. Anyone in town has something like that that they are not using? Or had happy results with some brands and domestic models that sometimes appear on trademe (Pfaff, Necchi, etc)? Cheers.
grantmc 59
OP Any commercial machine will handle sails, whether walking foot or wheel foot. Best to have a zig zag stitch. Suggest you contact Bryan Paton 021 438 925 or (04) 902 5794. He and his Dad service commercial machines, but they're often in the know with machines for sale. You can chose your budget, but expect to pay $600-$900.

Island Time 1,220
I use a Morse. Its a sailrite LS1 copy, walking foot. Works great, has straight and zig zag. There are lots of "brands" on the same machine - like this https://www.amazon.com/Rex-607-Portable-Walking-foot-machine/dp/B01H2DG6YG/ref=pd_cp_201_1/139-2140851-3311665?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01H2DG6YG&pd_rd_r=a53c987b-fc97-4bb7-ad51-bc9a00c5908d&pd_rd_w=Yg4Lu&pd_rd_wg=Lquwj&pf_rd_p=d534d65f-a237-49e4-9070-a58a3a6b8ba4&pf_rd_r=28JK21MY8MKFV5JD7KNH&refRID=28JK21MY8MKFV5JD7KNH&th=
