I am not sure I support Govt's throwing money at large corporates under the guise of "saving jobs"

Especially large overseas based tax dodgers, or organizations whose profits go offshore.

Out of this billion dollar policy There seems to be  a trend to immediately  say your getting rid of staff, thus your profit drops 30% and boom!.  your into the Govt payment for your staff.

Is there a requirement to keep those staff employed for a min period after C19 , and the lower rate of business/ profit that will bring?.. nope!?

Also, what happened to WARCHESTS and money set aside for a rainy day?...

Sone of these companies will have life support to keep them afloat then fail anyway... WTF.

these companies make huge profits, pay min taxes, and contrbute very little to NZ other than a few jobs ...which many  are  filled by overseas imports.

What have they actually contibuted to NZ other than take huge profits offshore.

It is crass when you're see money being poured into these organizations so thry have enough money to survive yet get a handout to make them more profitable in the future... And, I believe,  they don't have to pay it back .. unlike Air NZ.

These Buisnesses should be left to either float or sink. If they sink then that is an opportunity  for locals to step up.

30% of turnover, not profit. You have to 'try' to retain staff past the 12weeks the hand out is for. Its basically free money, go fill ya boots. Why? Because when the virus is dealt with the PM, who does appear to be NZs entire Govt even more today than the last 2 years,  is going to screw business so far up its chuffy to pay for her jerking   knees.

There does seem to be a pattern with the govts virus actions. They show Labour still very much have their eye on the next election. Sad but not unexpected.

Two of my 3 mobs are getting paid only a little less than usual full pay. The 3rd is only getting a cuppa tea and a scone.

Agree, a lot of the hand outs are going to mobs who were barely viable in the good days.

A survey done over the last few days shows 50% of NZers are now seriously concerned about their financial security. That's huge and is bound to grow.

GOVERNMENT SYSTEMS ARE IN PLACE

Due to the current financial situation caused by the Corona Virus and slowdown in the economy, the Government has decided to implement a scheme to put workers of 50 years of age and above on early, mandatory retirement, thus creating jobs and reducing unemployment.
This scheme will be known as RAPE (Retire Aged People Early). Persons selected to be RAPED can apply to the Government to be considered for the SHAFT program (Special Help After Forced Termination).
Persons who have been RAPED and SHAFTED will be reviewed under the SCREW program (System Covering Retired-Early Workers).
A person may be RAPED once, SHAFTED twice and SCREWED as many times as the Government deems appropriate.
Persons who have been RAPED could get AIDS (Additional Income for
Dependents & Spouse) or HERPES (Half Earnings for Retired Personnel Early
Severance).
Obviously persons who have AIDS or HERPES will not be SHAFTED or SCREWED any further by the Government.
Persons who are not RAPED and are staying on will receive as much sh*t
(Special High Intensity Training) as possible. The Government has always
prided themselves on the amount of sh*t they give our citizens.
Should you feel that you do not receive enough sh*t, please bring this to
the attention of your TD, who has been trained to give you all the sh*t you can handle.

Yeah sorry, I meant turnover, ...I bet there are many company's who were on the cusp and just took the Govt's easy option to extend the inevitable while paying their staff via the😜 taxpayer and avoiding a redundancy payout from their own pocket.

So much for market forces when the govt bails out the private sector.

These large corporates like Harvey Norman (3+million) should at least be made to pay it back when profit returns.

Yeap mobs are using this government looseness to get around the overly restrictive rules around culling crap staff. In a way that's goods as it will clear out a lot of drag, both performance and financial, many staff are on many companies. But sadly and wrongly this is also being used to dodge debt and that will gave a very bad flow on effect. The govt has effectively created the wild west so anything goes as long as u can spin a bit of covid into it some where.

Another survey shows between 30% and 50% of Akl businesses may never open again.

Its a ideology driven Govt so to it market forces must not be allowed to be seen to work.

I wonder his many deaths the economic fall out WILL cause. I'm seeing the number as very high and the Govt won't give a sh*t nor will a few sad demented old f**ks here on Crew.

Yip, suicide will increase as people get financially stressed. ...And remember who made a Mission statement (probably live from the cycle trail) that he would reduce the suicide rate in their first term)

Yip the dishonourable Dr David Clark

He said this in 2017

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11942886

And despite all his spin the numbers are higher during this Govt's term...

https://i.stuff.co.nz/national/health/115290090/suicide-rates-up-on-the-previous-year-latest-figures-show

So he and this Government are out of their depth in this area to.

And some F##k wits here will be in denial on this too due to the red color that flashes in their eye all day

It is with great sadness that I have to mention the loss of a few further local businesses around the town.
The bra manufacturer has gone bust,
the specialist in submersibles has gone under, the manufacturer of food blenders has gone into liquidation, a dog kennel has had to call in the retrievers, the suppliers of paper for origami enthusiasts has folded, the Heinz factory has been canned as they couldn't ketchup with orders, the tarmac laying company has reached the end of the road, the bread company has run out of dough, the clock manufacturer has had to wind down, the Chinese has been taken away, the shoe shop has had to put his foot down and given his staff the boot and finally the launderette has been taken to the cleaners!
