Kevin McCready 83
Starting a new thread seeking info. User:Tamure just said on the safety thread " motorbike gear is better and cheaper than sailing wets". Any info on the best wet weather motorbike gear would be greatly appreciated, including boots (though I see from earlier info the advice "throw your seaboots away and wear SealSkinz long waterproof breathable merino socks." ballystick 72
I had some nice wet weather gear but the zips and appendages were metallic and corroded quite badly
ricka 3
Does salt on and in the fabric make any difference to it being for marine or motorcycle?
dutyfree 170
As a motorcyclist I can attest that there is a great range of motorcycle wet weather gear both in terms of features and costs. As KM points out, even at 100 kph plus my wet weather gear does not leak. It is probably not that comfortable for sailing as it is often designed for a relatively "fixed" posture. Mine also has safety padding, but that is removable. I dont think it would be affected by salt water and mine has plastic zips, removable thermal liners etc. I ride in shorts and tee shirt under my gear for longer winter rides (thermal liners in the jacket and pants). If it gets cold enough I will add some icebreaker stuff. My everyday jacket gets worn min 5 days per week, is still 100% waterproof.
