Fish 0
The world is in a state of flux. America has broken the old world order of international treaties, agreements and general law as a way of doing things. This is to China's advantage. While everyone is distracted by the worlds biggest recession, China is just doing what it wants, pushing into every corner of the world it deems rightfully theirs. China is going to be the world's only super power shortly. America is in serious decline. The western world can either spend a lot on defence, or suck it up...

By any honest measure, the US spends more than ten times as much on the military as China. Don't trust the Blob.

Priscilla II 392
One would have to factor in profiteering and value for money with the discrepancy in military budgets between the USA and China. Each one of these B-2 Spirits cost US $2 billion they brought 20 how much would it cost to manufacture in China. In regards to the fishing China runs a foreign policy that focuses primarily on securing access to protein wether or not it is sourced legally or sustainably and not just fish. erice 732
on that The Sankei article also says the Chinese stated that Japan “is not entitled to demand” the fishing fleet cease its activities. If that part of the report is accurate, China is saying, “This is our territory…and from now we are going to prove it.” https://asiatimes.com/2020/08/china-japan-island-dispute-in-new-sharper-focus/?fbclid=IwAR2hw4j60KZAhur3GOm09MOHwnTOps4oN16awIwx3B82d61ignETEuDxEFc

AJ Oliver 154
The chart below, like US military accounting in general, seriously understates US security spending - the figure in the chart DOES NOT INCLUDE: spending on the entire US itell system (NSA, CIA, FBI, and more), spending on vets pensions & health care, nuke weapons R & D and production, and much else. https://www.pgpf.org/chart-archive/0053_defense-comparison A fair estimate of total annual US military spending is around $1.2 trillion, about 7% of what used to be our GDP. https://www.fcnl.org/about/policy/issues/wars-militarism/pentagon-spending
AJ Oliver 154
Sorry for my part in some thread drift . . But the US being outspent on the military by China is ludicrous.
erice 732
under xi all chinese companies need to further integrate 'the party' into their business structure + governance and if that means handing over the data on their servers for some targeted asymmetric warfare, it'll happen The notice requests all regions and departments to implement the new policies and “encourage private enterprises to participate in the reform of mixed ownership”. Companies are also being urged to bolster their own internal Communist Party committees, which can influence commercial decisions. “Party committees at all levels must strengthen their leadership over the united front work of the private economy, fully implement the party's guidelines and policies, and do a good job in implementing the various decisions and deployments of the Party Central Committee,” the notice said. “Guide private enterprises to improve their corporate governance structure and explore the establishment of a modern corporate system with Chinese characteristics.” https://www.stuff.co.nz/world/australia/300112308/chinese-drones-swarming-australian-skies-raises-security-concerns
