it's absolutely shocking

but trump's behaviour is entirely in keeping with a grandiose narcissist willing to burn the whole place to the ground rather than give up the power their dishonest promises got them

they are unreasonable people and they can not be reasoned with!

LOCK HIM UP

and give ivanka a few days in the clanker by encouraging the protesters by calling them patriots

the challenge for the usa is not just dealing with him and his supporters but in recognising there are more of these people ready to pull all the same levers and step into his shoes at the next opportunity............career republicans politicians seem to need a some help

apparently the way that former popular politicians, turned dictators; stalin, hitler, mussolini, mao, pinnoche?, pol pot, ceausescu?, chavez, mugabe, kims(1,2,3) etc etc etc slowly removed all checks to their powers then destroyed their countries with their own misguided ideas seems to a lesson that needs to be learned by most countries every generation

It says more about Americas economic failure for at least 1/2 the population, the "American dream" is about as big a hoax as  the trickle down theory or "YOU can win Lotto", Around 100 + people in NZ do that each year, you can, but for the rest of the 5.000.000, not in this lifetime, similar odds to getting hit by lightening or licked by a shark,  History repeating itself no matter the political bent.

pretty much the same human failing

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government.  It can only exist until the voters discover they can vote themselves largess from the public treasury.

From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising them the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.

The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith;
from spiritual faith to great courage;
from courage to liberty;
from liberty to abundance;
from abundance to selfishness;
from selfishness to apathy;
from apathy to dependence;
from dependency back again into bondage.

are we all at different parts of the cycle?

...

It was disgraceful and deadly and dangerous. It deserves no excuse, only condemnation.

But the worst part is that it wasn't the beginning and may not be the end. Instead it was yet another hellish moment in the ever escalating cycle of chaos that has crippled what was once the world's greatest republic. Radicalism has replaced reason. Violence has replaced language.

The obscene scenes in Washington this week have only served to prove the ugly truth that all extremists are the same. They justify violence in the service of their own cause and condemn it in others. And when they see that violence they respond in kind. Extremism begets extremism.

Indeed, how can those on the hard left condemn an attack on a government building when they have partaken in, defended or turned a blind eye to the burning of churches and courthouses and businesses?

Joe Biden invoked the words of Abraham Lincoln. It was a noble effort but one replete with irony given that far-left activists have also turned their attacks to the great emancipator.

Protesters in ultra-woke Portland tore down the city's Lincoln statue.... and Boston's Emancipation Memorial depicting Lincoln liberating a slave was dismantled by the council because protesters didn't like the tone.

Combine that with the toppling of other monuments across the country and it's little wonder conservative Americans are panicked that their national heritage is being stripped away piece by piece.

But the only way to resolve these issues is through public debate and at the ballot box. And it is telling that extremists on both sides always struggle with either.

the Democrats have won the Holy Trinity of the presidency, the House and the Senate. It looks like an incredible landslide but the truth is far more tenuous. Despite an opponent widely derided as the most deranged in American history, the Democrats lost seats in the House, would have failed to win a Senate majority but for an historical quirk, and came within the proverbial insect's apparatus of losing the big one.

Biden won on record voter turnout but it was concentrated in the big east-west powerhouses of New York and California. Thus he got a massive 4.5 per cent margin in the popular vote but in the battleground states that actually decide elections it was a razor-thin 0.1 per cent.

American democracy still lives on a knife-edge. And it is a democracy where madness begets madness and extremism begets extremism. God save them.

if it hadn't been for corona, the wokes wouldn't have won, in fact have they won even now?  there or here

with such a tiny majority, does biden have the mandate to do much more than roll back trump's extreme moves and then do 1?% of what many of his supporters over-demand?

it'll be interesting to see how the americans sort this out

because where they go we often follow

after all it is a human nature issue

To answer the thread title.

Yeap.

But the politicians do have a chance to advert it if they are wise enough I'm amazed at how the political muppets in the US seem either unable to see or for whatever reason unable to talk about it, how the self-interested wankery they are all up to right now is the very reason Trump got elected in the first place and increased his share of the mass vote.

But I genuinely think the US political cluster, or swamp which becomes a more appropriate term as each day passes, are unable to look beyond they petty self interested greedy scams, doges and other bullshit activities to see let alone understand they are the ones who gave birth to the swamp millions want gone, the very swamp that opened the opportunity for someone like Trump to become president.

Changing to Biden will change f*ck all as he's been so deep in the swamp for so long he is part of the reason these pissed off millions exist and his nefarious dealings show he's more than happy to f*ck the population over if he, or his family, benefit from it. Not to mention watching him on telly the other evening and he came across as less authoritative than a 5 yo old school girl and less scary that a pet rock.  But he will have a massive advantage Trump never had, Biden has the media on his side and in todays world those who are media darlings can do no wrong, those that aren't stand by to get hammered...exactly like it happens in NZ.

It'll be interesting to see where all this goes but I just can't see any good short term outcome, this is going to take a long time to tidy up and Biden, or any other person up there in either of the warring factions, is not the person to do it.
