Hi all,

March 27-28 will see the PCC hosting and running the Up to 26 Club Championship Regatta.

This two day event that will see a harbour course on the Saturday followed by a short harbour course and 3 x W/l races. Start/Finish area in the vicinity of Northern leading.

We have strong class support from the Trackers, Reactors and The Marauders (25 1/2 feet on the waterline!)

We are especially keen to have a large mixed fleet. Piedys, 727s, Noelexs, SR26 s are all welcome.

Racing with the Up to 26' Club is fun, friendly and competitive. So no matter whether or not you have raced with us before, come on out.

Please post any queries here.

Entry form, NOR etc will be posted soon on http://www.upto26club.org.nz/

look forward to seeing you on the water.

Is it only for keelers? I see you include Noelex's - so you do include trailer yachts?

Have discussed this with THM, maybe some more info may encourage him further. :?:

Smokey Joe will be Along.....It would be great to get enough 1/4 tonners involved to have our own division. 727's you fit the class :!: :!: :?:

With all the international interest with 1/4 tonners going on surely we can get 5+ together....

Anyone interested if you get an entry in earlier than later, and give a nudge to any other owners you know so we can promote the numbers involved.

Toles.

Hi Megwyn,

. . . Do you sail a Noelex ?

No - we sail an Elliott 7.8, and I am keen to get more racing experience, although THM is not as keen as I am.

Off tonight to do the Gulf Classic tomorrow - our biggest race yet - 65nm (approx) around the Gulf/Harbour. Hopefully will be finished by early Sun morn - if not late Sat night lol. Did the 80nm last year in a keeler, and we finished soon after 2am. This season have noted we are not far off their pace, so should be able to do the 65 in a timely fashion. Main working better post a rig tune up last weekend, just not sure if we can point quite so high now . . . it all comes out in the wash tomorrow.

So, we may be interested in some racing - all depends on if I can convince THM to go :) . Is it round the cans or round islands?

Round the cans in the Bean Rock area. Well organised as well.

Lots of fun but even with your speeder you'll have some hot competition, there are a few good micro-speeders there. Very good to get the race skills and boat speeds up.

I will have a go again at presenting the idea to him. Coming from KK Bay, it would take us a while to get to Bean Rock.

No harm in 'suggesting' it tho :)

I agree - racing hones the cruising skills greatly. Our machine may be a speeder, but we are not - I have a rep for crossing the start line with a coffee in my hand - can't go breaking THAT habit in too big a hurry. It would be nice to race against some competitive sailors, most of the WYS boys are not straight out racers. I have noted that most wives don't really like to race. A number don't like a yacht to lean. I admit, a non leaning boat is great fun - but if its a choice of lean or don't sail - I will chose to sail any day

Megwyn,

You, boat and crew would be more than welcome. Saturday is a harbour course around the Inner harbour. Courses length approx 20 miles.

Sunday is a short harbour course and will be set to ensure most boats can finish in approx 2 hours. Then a sort lunch "break" 15-30 min. Then 3 times W/L.

PCC do the race control, and the way we have set the courses means we have various "circuits" of the harbour sailing via NLL (Northern leading) this means that courses can be shortened without too much bother. The boat will up up anchor an finish at other mark if light or foul weather develops. Also good if the faster boats finish first and the breeeze then dies, the slower Divisions can still get a finish and the faster mixed fleet is not kept hanging around.

KM is right re racing/Cruising skills. The W/L format is good to see where you sit compared to other boats too. Also good for practicing starts too.

Do all you can to get THM out, you wont regret it...

Good luck for tonight.

Aaron

The more the merrier !

No sure of entry numbers yet, but the Maruaders will prob get 12 . The Trackers and Reactors each circa 10-11 boats (based on Winter series) and usually the mixed fleet 6-10 boats too.

Maybe some 727s peidys SR 26s will turn up too?

The biggest fleet the Up to 26 had was first winter series race 2 -3 years ago, 56 boats..+

Hi Guys,

We intend to enter, so there will be another 1/4 tonner :D

Are you the new owner, or the old one?

Are there many Whiting 26s around?

Could be KM, maybe you should get one..

Good to see you out there infiltrator !

Other Whiting 26 1/4 tonners are ;

TEMPUS K1923 P Whiting Whiting 26

STRAWBERRY LETTER K3642 Paul Whiting Whiting 26

SWEATHOG K4022 P Whiting Whiting 26

INFILTRATOR K5732 P Whiting Whiting 26

If anyone keen, I canm put them in touch with owner of Strawberry letter who currently has more boats than he can sail and may possibly be keen to sell to someone who will get her out on the water. Looks V similar to infiltrator. post a note here if u keen, dont PM 'cause i always forgtet to read those.

I've recently had a chat with MArk from Race track- He' set upa new catagory for 1/4 ton class boats...So it would be great to have everyone cehck their boats on racetrack - make sure your class details are set up right. quarter tonners!

http://racetrack.org.nz/category.php?categoryid=10

I noted that between the whiting 1/4 tonners alone some are calling ourselves a Whiting 26 over a 1/4 tonner

Thoughts from anyone!?

ehh...just had a look at the race track page and im sorry to say the scratch boat wont be there in the 1/4 tonners. a couple of us are helping a mate sail his boat, the reckless rat against the likes of aquaholic and cantara and moody blue in their nationals the same weekend. we won last year so have slight oblegations.

in regards to the winter series the owner of quarter pint wants to see what the rayc are doing (vice commodore you see) but based on last years efforts we may be racing up to 26 unless they make drastic changes. couple of others in the class are waiting to see what QP does
