14ft production Cats wanted

Have several club members looking for 14ft catamarans, those tired cats sitting under trees unused are what we are after, Small budget racing!

We have finished this season of with upto 4 windrushs, 1 maricat, 1 Hobie 14 Turbo and a couple of PTs racing. Would like to increase the fleet, working on the theory if we find the boats we will find sailors! have several sailors already just lack of cheap cats

Are keen to find Windrush 14 (MK2 boat preferred) or Maricat 4.3 - multi coloured sails are fine and add to the spectacle.

If you know of any who want to go to a good home PM me or call/txt on 021 616691

A great initiative and you'll have a lot of fun. Having gone down that track though, as time goes by you may find the racing gets keener but ultimately less satisfying for those with uncompetitive boats.

We had a few Windrush's and the occassional Hobie plus a Paper Tiger that ran rings around all of them. Using the "if you can't beat them…." formula, we all eventually changed to PTs, resulting in a keenly competitive fleet with good close racing. You could do the same with any other "one design" to keep the racing close and give everyone a chance - it was just that the PT was the fastest, most plentiful, and offered by far the best fleet racing for those who wanted to travel and compete elsewhere. Having raced beach cats and then PTs, once bitten there's no going back.

Doesn't need to be expensive as there are quite a few old PTs around. There's also plenty of support from the NZ & Aussie PT Associations, both directly and on-line, that you won't get with the other boats.

Just a thought for the future, but whatever direction you take, it's great that you're getting people out sailing.

I guess it is a good way of getting a fleet together cheaply though.

As you say, over time they will gravitate to one design to stay competitive once the bug has bitten.

Getting the bug to bite is the goal! The idea behind the production cats is price and they are an easy way to learn to sail. With peoples spare time being limited these days a low maintenance and some what bullet proof cat is attractive especially when you can justify purchase with the fact that you can take the kids out too!

Its all about getting bums on boats, new members are hard to find these days so keen to do what ever may work.

Clarks Beach Yacht Club, approx 20mins from Papakura. We are only a small club but with excellent facilities and lots of rigging area. We are the only club on the Manukau Harbour that can sail at all times. We have finished for season and resume labour weekend.
