Young Entertainer 59
looks like 2 boats entered already for BMW E division so 1/3 of the way to having our own small boat fleet!!!! Looks like kites it is so better get some gear bolted on.
Guest Rocket
From where I sit teh more options the lesser the fleet. This is supposed to be a racing regatta (my understanding - could be wrong) - why would you have passage racing - there is probably a passage race or three every day of the week somewhere for those who need directed cruising. Young Entertainer 59
personally I think that before it can beome a racing regatta it needs to become a sustainable regatta, with the budget that it runs, to get 64 boats on the water why would you not take any boat that wants to enter. If I dont enter the small boat division, I would go racing on one of the larger boats and the regatta will have one less entry. Next time the organisers talk to sponsors they have one less number ot talk about, simple maths
Guest Rocket
But punters wll soon get sick of playing with 4 or 5 other boats - serious racing that ain't! We would be better having fewer starts with more boats - I am a fan of all in together until fleet size gets to 40 or so then you can break it down by division. You get more boat on boat action and starting games in the average Wed nite race than you do in something like the BMW with small fleets. We have small fleets - why spread them out - and as an OOD I would be happy running W/Ls but not W/Ls plus a parallell passage race in an attempt to please everyone. This is supposed to be a feeder for an international regatta sailed on W/Ls - sticknig to that format seems like a good idea to me. But then I can't understand no extras racing either so maybe it is my problem. (as in why would you bother calling it a race...)
Young Entertainer 59
I agree with bigger fleet starts, best nationals I ever did there were about 60 boats. looks like there are three in E division now, and I got my shiny new PHRF cert in the mail today so my entry is going in on Monday
