Consorcio Valencia 2007 will organise the America’s Cup on shore

For the first time, Racing will be broadcast Live on the internet

The Société Nautique du Genève (SNG), trustee of the America’s Cup, has delegated the responsibility for organising the media and event activities for the 33rd America’s Cup to Consorcio Valencia 2007. The 33rd America’s Cup promises to be a regatta unlike everything which has been seen so far.

Sorry mate. But your world is changing. RF Transmission will or is already old technology. It will eventually be phased out and left to just some specific parts of the industry. RF transmission is expensive and complex and requires specialist people to run it. Digital is simple and cheap. The way of the future for at least the moment is fibre optic and it will be run to every home. Just how far behind NZ will remain will be based on population and thus cost recovery. But you would be amazed at what ideas are out there in regards to "connecting your home" to a network. TV or what ever the future will call it, will no longer be the sole reason for connectivity to a Communication network. The entire running of your home will rely on it.

Well, I care a bit, now that it _might_ be just around the corner.

It'll be impressive to watch in the pre-start and for the first 5 minutes or so.

And then there's a chance that there might actually be a result, and that, particularly if GGYC wins, another event might be scheduled with multiple teams and a design rule that will make the next one interesting for say 15 minutes instead of 5. I guess we'll have wait at least another 2 or 3 cup cycles before it starts to matter how good the sailors are again.

But more to the point. Ignoring the 3D HD streaming internet options (http://tvnz.co.nz/football-news/premier-league-set-broadcast-in-3d-3344973), and presuming it actually happens sometime, anyone have an idea if the AC will be on NZ TV?

Yeah TV coverage would be good!

But lets get real here...

the racing will be good!

the boats are awesome!

then the loser will protest!

then the loser will go to court on some technicality!

then we wait....

then we see a random challenge!

the stakes for these two boof heads is huge so they will not take a loss ont he chin !

Meanwhile Dalton and TNZ suck up all thier (ours) cash!

Only probs with the TV , you gotta be there to watch it, unless you manage somehow to figure out the instruction manual of the DVD recorder only to find out you set the time wrong and it started 20 mins to late and run out of disk space and ended up 20 mins short and all you recorded was the adds. :eh:

I guess STS that TV has a coverage that is perceived to be greater, but we judge that by how many are at the pub to watch the game, how many are tucked away in their rooms watching? hard to measure I would imagine. The Web is the way, however it is we that most likely need to change our habits.

I like the fact that if I miss the AC because I got tied up feeding the cat, I can then go download it and have it forever.

I have followed the America's Cup ever since the Aussies first started challenging and it has always been absolutely fascinating not only because it is the ultimate yachting prize but because of the egos, the money and the court cases.

Nothing has changed, it has always been the same and that is what sets it apart from any other regatta and attracts world wide attention unlike any other yachting or for that matter any other "sporting" event.

Technology has always played a major part - look at the Aussie winged keel and NZs fibreglass 12 metre.

The New York Yacht Club were the masters at changing the rules to keep the cup - unfortunately we Kiwis (and the Aussies I guess) had too much sense of fair play and therefore lost the cup.

This is just another chapter in the saga !

TV for me!

They are just your isp provider not the host on the data. I have slingshot and quite frankly they have been brilliant thus far

also the TV link is reliable and the Picture quality is better

depend on a few things, What is your TV, LCD, Plasma,CRT then you have to consdier refresh rates etc, also is the signal comming via the Stars i.e Shy dish, All you need is a bit of rain and we are poked.

Benifts in both mediums I guess, why not use both

Does anyone know why it is best of 3 races ?

The original America's Cup had only one challenger same as now but when the aussies challenged I think it was best of 7 races.

Cause the boats will not last much longer than that if they get a blow

It is 3 races, as it is being run under the rules of the original deed of gift.

Anything else has always been agreed on by the holder and challenger of record. That is where the shitfight started on this one.
