Easter Event for the NON Racers

We know there are plenty of races happening at Easter, not least the Auckland to Tauranga Race.

But there are plenty of people who don't race (or can't get insurance for their multihulls), so Crew.org.nz is proposing a social event for them (Thanks to Bill Barry for hitting me with this one).

At this stage we are looking for expressions of interest and suggestions.

The current plan would be an Erac (that's race backwards!) on Friday. Start from anywhere you like at anytime you like and plan to cross my Transom (I was offered Pork Chop for the weekend, but he was drunk at the time so I need to verify that the offer is still valid, otherwise I'll try to borrow Future Perfect) to finish at 2pm. Prizes will be handed out at the organizers whim. 4pm a potluck on the beach. If we go to that place mentioned in another thread we could go from there to the wine tasting place maybe. That way the boats with kids etc can pack it in early and the diehards carry on. Just a thought.

Then choose another destination and meet up again for another BBQ/potluck Sunday arvo. This would leave plenty of time to wander off and do your own thing, and get back home on monday.

Thoughts - comments - suggestions???? Who would be in besides me and Bill?

Also we need a name - Uninsured Sailors Rendezvous was suggested as it came out of the multi fleet. But I want it to be all inclusive - big boats, little boats, red boats, blue boats, you get the idea. Gulf Raid? Hauraki Raid?

:( I can't get there. . . unless I can talk Mr RO into coming back up that way, and cruising around for a couple of weeks for the school hols.

Let me work on it.

Failing that - what is happening down Tauranga way for Easter?

A multi ecar (love it Ogre) to the Mayor?

How about a meeting of the multis? If we can get the Tga multis up to the Mercs, and the Auck multis can get there, maybe we could meet up on Sat night?

That way any multis coming back from Tga to Auck can join in to. :shh:

Or is Sat the after party?

With just a little touch of luck we should have the mighty Seaforth fully operational by then and would be extremely keen to participate in a light hearted ecar event with extended socialising, general silliness and relaxed enjoyment.

Provided that we're attending we should be able to provide a mothership service for a small number of individuals who would otherwise not have accomodation on their vessels ....... i.e. if someone was sailing a centreboarder for instance and wanted to stay overnight we could perhaps find some bunkspace for you.

A certain embayment at the bottom end of one of the gulf islands would provide the wine tasting experience mentioned and give sufficient alternative anchorages within close proximity should the weather decide to become somewhat inconveniently obstreperous. There is also the added advantage of the general acceptance of our canine crew members ashore on that island.

BTW , we intend this to be family friendly, dinghy races, sandcastle competitions or whatever else Bill can think up. And I promise there won't be Mount Gay Prizes for the kids events.
