Wife wants to learn to sail - small dingy ideas

My Mum bought herself a Laser "M" rig back in 74 and never looked back, 4.7 would be close and just as much fun though the M rig had a halyard so you could stuff the whole sail onto the lower mast section and stand the rig then hoist.....very handy for a little old lady, we'd loose her for full days as she'd head off to waiheke or circumnavigate rangi on a sunny day with a bottle of water and a few carrots and celery for lunch, handy rig to fish from also as you could drop the pick, drop the sail and tie the boom upright to the rig and fish away. 2 windsurfers and 2 beams clamped to the rail made a passable trimaran as well however perhaps the cruelest trick we pulled with it was to plonk a Q class rig onto a beam spanning rail to rail taking the weight off the maststep and drilled Ubolts onto the bow and rails for shrouds which really only proved the rudder is about minimum size as it is, certainly flew along while steerable though...Now have a 16 series laser and it seems so lightly built and fragile that I'm certain the layup design has differred somewhat from the original, all in all though a great fun versatile design that doesn't need to be raced to have fun with
