OYSTR 1
pushing it hard i bet. Eye witness said they were stopped before it went over, but just saw video and that person must have been directly fore or aft cos they were moving.
Absolution 7
Looks like the wing is going to need a rebuld. They are really going to struggle to use up their 30 days of testing now.
Guest
WOW. I wonder if there is a full video of the crash so we can see what happened. It looks pretty windy in that photo so they must have been pushing hard, dont have the same control as EMTNZ or both?
Battleship 100
Holy crap, hope everyone is ok.

Guest
Apparently the wind was around 20 knots gusting to around 26 knots when they flipped (at least thats what it was at the St Francis Yacht Club had). There have been no injuries and they still havnt been able to right the boat after an hour. Edit: bad injuries
Guest
Wow that's nuts!!! That boat will be fucked
Hurts 6
Bugger! I think that crash will have huge implications - hopefully the injuries aren't too serious. It's a bit late to change the boats, but maybe they should revisit the wind limits - sailing those things in 30Kn is a bit ambitious. The Oracle boat and the bows waving about independently of each other can't have helped too.
Marshy 30
That wing looks positively rooted!

Guest
Far out. That is definatly a start again job. They wont be sailing again until early next year. Do you think this is a publicity stunt?
ScottiE 174
Bugger! sailing those things in 30Kn is a bit ambitious. why - ETNZ have proved it can be done in that sort of breeze.
OYSTR 1
Watching the ABC live feed here http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/livenow?id=8849852#&cmp=twi-kgo-article-8849852 it looks like they are really struggling with the tide, they've drifted a long way out past the bridge. This kind of thing is certainly foreseeable, hard to imagine there wasn't some mechanism built in to the wing to trigger some floatation (wouldn't have to be hydrostatic, manual would be fine )
