erice 732 Posted August 1, 2013 Share Posted August 1, 2013 the magic of mass production could be true but am surprised they are not hard soldered together those 6v lantern batteries are not that common or cheap in nz so don't be surprised if you cut 1 open, even the same type, and find it's made of a bundle of other sized batteries hard soldered together.... banaari 27 Posted August 1, 2013 Share Posted August 1, 2013 They _are_ constructed of smaller cells; 4 big 1.5v units. Ideally, there'd just be one big cell, but there need to be 4 because the electrochemistry dictates that each cell will produce 1.5V. To get 6V you must string 4 in series. If you think about it, using 32 AAs would be extremely wasteful as the ratio of electrolyte to packaging drops with the diameter of the cell... Link to post Share on other sites
