It's quite amusing to wind the time back on the bar at the bottom of the tracker screen to the start and watch everyone start moving about, then all pile into Westhaven.

Update on V5 as their tracker is on crack. They are just ahead of another TP52 Kia Kaha

Outrageous continues to smash her way up the coast. They are pointing at sail rock with lifts ahead.

Ogre reports that the wind has swung 15 degrees west in the last half hour (hes anchored in a bay up north)

From the Coastal site..... Come on Vodafone!!!!!!

Team Australia is winning the PIC Insurance Brokers Coastal Classic!

They are reported to be about six nautical miles (23 minutes) ahead of TeamVodafone, sailing under trinquette and full main.

TeamVodafone crewman Luke Wigglesworth - sitting this one out from Tutukaka - says that Vodafone is sailing under reef and solent and keeps tacking into shore. The Australian boat - with Chris Dickson as tactician - come through on the North Wester and has benefited from breeze that is now showing more Northerly.

Exodus has broken a forestay but saved its rig. The boat is proceeding back to Auckland.

Freedom is bouncing along off Parakai, laying the Hen and doing about 10 knots. They are about five miles behind the 50 footers, but ahead of everything else.

Fusion x are having a stunner of a race and have already passed sail rock. The older racing cat is showing that it still has pace as it is only 14 minutes behind Charleston at sail rock who could put 10 minutes on them in a 2.5 hour long harbour race.

I have been waiting for this update for some time. Lawless the brand new Xp44 that got launched several months ago is just 15 miles from and they report that the boat feels good. Now time to see how they are going compered to the other 40 foot cruiser racers....

and the battle of the top racing 50 footers continues

Wired, Kia Kaha and georgia have called in at the same time at sail rock and half a hour ago V5 were just ahead of Kia Kaha. This is a great race for these 4 boats.

Whio are now back at westhaven. Thats not the result the 8.5 multi would have wanted. yet again the coastal classic claims scelps in the under 10.66m multihull fleet with one broken mast, a broken fore stay and a withdrawn with no other information.

An update on the wind situation further north from the coastal site.

Chris Prentice says the wind is squarer off the land inshore, but the seabreeze influence has pushed the wind to the right out to sea. That will make for a big tactical battle for everyone on the racecourse.

The difference between a newer and older 50 foot racers. Kia Kaha is a TP52 that sails out of Opua and Venture is a Open 50 that has been stripped out and is ready to do the Sydney to Hobart this year. This difference at sail rock between to boats? Kia Kaha ahead by 30 minutes.
