Indeed AA, sailing isn't for everyone, nor should it be forced upon anyone who is unwilling to take part. To each their own. But it may well be the case that many wives and girlfriends do not get involved in sailing, much to the disappointment of their partners, because of their partners' attitudes towards women on board.

I personally have experienced a far higher prevalence of sexism and bigoted behaviour among the sailing fraternities of the world than in any other sport I have taken part in. And that includes traditionally 'male dominated' sports like snowboarding, mountain biking, rock climbing... all high-testosterone, high-muscle activities. But the difference is, I have been accepted as an equal by my male counterparts in all of them. Except sailing.

My message here is only to those who continue to think of sailing, and yes Squid, in particular yacht racing, as a 'male domain', and either do what they can to protect it, or simply don't think beyond their own selfish needs that their behaviour might be having a negative impact on others - namely, every promising and enthusiastic female sailor out there who simply needs a level playing field and a bit of positive encouragement to get involved. Not sexist comments the like of which I ofund on this thread.

There, did I do good DR? I managed not to swear OR mention genitalia!

Nice!

Go south and you will not find the "Aucklandized " "anti Female" style!

You see it in Team NZ and the Americas cup! it's a white man dominated ego fest! and NZ is the worst at it.

crikey even the yanks embraced a Kiwi Girl named Leslie Egnot in the AC!

This sexism is generated through their "Percieved" Dominance in the sport and the biased support they get from YNZ. It is a Historical "hand me down" als (from the Keep the woman at home era)" This support gives the Auckland crowd a sense of power and yet most of our best sailors came from South of the Bombays!

The whole culture is medievil  and its not just biased against woman! it's biased against dark skinned people and people from poor suburbs / sectors / ethnic groups. yet if we had this "majority's input and involvement we may actually learn a lot and get big number through or into the sport!

God help us if we ever let saw these people being helped or mingling with the Squady crowd :wtf:

Yet the NZ white people are in demise and the Asian / PAcific islanders are the future of all sport!

Down south we have very little support from the governing body and just move with the times and work things out on the smell of a oily rag. (while all the Sparc funding goes to rich kids sailing in europe)

Sorry to rant.

?? where do i say i don't share my boating experience?.,.. and where is your sense of Humour?

I have done a whole heep of sailing with woman! and the best crew i ever had was a woman. we sailed or years and represented NZ at sailing both at local and world level. She was the best spinnaker trimmer i had ever seen and could out hike most men!

Most of my keel boat sailing was with many woman! and they were better than most the men!

as for sandpaper, well some people here will tell you how much sandpaper i have used! but unlike you Mr Grinner i use my hands and not my Nads when sanding! (you get that technique when you have experince with sandpaper. it's also less painfull!)

Errr, Dry Reach if you learned to read a bit more carefully and not go off prematurely you'll see that I am quite prepared for you to live your life anyway you choose to. I don't make any assumptions about what you do, or do not, do in real life. The only thing I judge you on is what you type ..... and might I point out that there's an awful lot of that.

I care not whether you do or don't sail, with or without a partner. I don't care if the people who may or may not be on any boat with you are good or not. I don't care if they're female or not. You do what you wanna do.

Me, I'll continue to share my boating experience with my wife and encourage her to be an active and competent sailor equally capable of managing and sailing the boat and equally skilled as I aspire to be or even moreso.

If you actually read what I wrote you'd see that I said that one did not need to have a pair of testicles to use sandpaper. I didn't say that you use your testicles on sandpaper. If you've done that, then a) you're kinda pervy; B) you're kinda masochistic; and c) you're kinda adventurous ... though possibly not that bright. Just for the record, you're better off using the sandpaper on a sanding block or longboard rather than using your hands ... but I'm sure you knew that :)

In answer to your original question (where's my sense of humour?) .... I haven't had a sense of humour failure at all. If you're reading that into my post, then you're assuming intonation that isn't there. You're pretty quick to point out the assumptions of others ... maybe you should look at your own posts.

And I picked a day to do work.

BB, I do like the size of your figurative balls, more power to you and you go hard girl as you are quite right. Our sport is very male dominated and personally I think that's knot good for quite a few reasons.

Hey, you won't happen to have a Townsend boat would you? And a follow up to that question - if you have could you please slow the bloody thing down and stop beating the lads, I'm sure it's knot supposed to work that way   And a follow up comment to that - nicely sailed indeed if that was you yesterday. The please slow down comment still applies though ;)

Don't suppose you'd lean back a bit would ya, your blocking the view of your sister in you avitar

Clipper - you seem to have confused the desire for equality with feminism - a common misconception, especially among bitter old men who see no need to change the status quo as it suits them just-fine-thank-you-very-much.

Maybe I have confused desire for equality with feminism. If I have, its in the way the message is delievered, not the mesage itself.

Maybe you take your unfortunate experiences as licence to slag off ALL men, not just the ones you've had trouble with.

Sorry to focus on the trivial in the midst of all these outrageous statements but since we are all yachties, we need to get this right out of respect. One was a great yacht designer and the other destroys guitars.

Yeah nah, I didn't really want to be the spelling police either, especially in the middle of a good scrap - just thought that if someone doesn't, at some stage we will all forget how his name was ever spelt. Trademe is just littered with it, probably more Townsends listed than Townsons.

Anyway on with the entertainment. BB was just about to burn someone as I recall...

Um, no, 'fraid not. Or should that be 'frayed knot'?

Talk about thread drift - we were congratulating some one on buying a nice little Tracker!!!!

Yeah, congrats on a very nice looking Tracker. I just hope you're one of the good 'uns...

THAT big caravan? How come he gets to go sailing in weekends and you can't? I'll give it some serious thought as I shouldn't let me wet weather gear grow cobwebs. Sorry for the thread hijack Clint. Trackers are nice boats and a well proven class. I'm sure you and your wife and family will have a great time in it.

(Over to you BB)

What an absolute crock of sh*t.

BB ,far higher sexism? Bigoted behaviour? Seriously You do your sex a major disservice. There are plenty of woman out there in yacht racing who are achieving plenty. Just because you aren’t seeing them doesn’t mean they aren’t out there. The ones who are though, are generally far to busy doing it to get involved in this crappy site where 8 unemployed ignorant old fuckers each with three identities pass the time of day. Anyway most girls just don’t like getting all wet and sweaty, and so apart from getting out for a Friday night race, where are they? Come to think of it most of the blokes are like that now too, must be all the oestrogen in the food chain. So BB how do you want it, a Woman’s Tee? Woman’s start half way around the course? Just do it, Tiger did.

Dry Reach?, is that from blowing your boyfriend?

White men cant jump! Your chip really is showing, so how many Tongan helmsman are there in Bluff then? Its all those horrid Jaffa’s fault that a girl hasn’t helmed our AC boats and that half the crew aren’t PI or Maori. Bullshit. Its because it takes ages and costs plenty to get to any sort of level in our sport, not just eating taro and drinking coke. And the sad reality of our society is that Maori and PI are over represented in our jails and under represented in yacht racing, and the number of women who want to compete is small. Any one can, they just gota want to enough, same as the rest of life. And if you want to open up that can of worms as to why, you better be prepared for the answers.

Yes Plenty of great sailors from south of the Bumbays, (mostly because they are good semen and can sail in more than 20knts unlike Jaffas) but don’t blame the Jaffa’s and Squaddy for the lack of turbans or Muslim Veils in the sport, that’s just dumb.

PS BB Are you a one bagger, or two, nice chassis but photo please!

**Sigh...** Right, let me take this one point at a time...

There are plenty of woman out there in yacht racing who are achieving plenty. Just because you aren’t seeing them doesn’t mean they aren’t out there.

I did not, at any point, suggest that there are no women achievers in sailing. If you had read the thread, you would be aware of that fact. What I did suggest, was that my personal experience of sailing is that there is a higher percentage of dicks like you involved. And I don't think even you could dispute that fact now, given your nonsensical tirade.

The ones who are though, are generally far to busy doing it to get involved in this crappy site where 8 unemployed ignorant old fuckers each with three identities pass the time of day.

Presumably you are including yourself in that definition.

Anyway most girls just don’t like getting all wet and sweaty

Apart from the ones in all those pornos I've been watching I guess!

and so apart from getting out for a Friday night race, where are they?

I thought you just said there were plenty of women out there in yacht racing?

Come to think of it most of the blokes are like that now too, must be all the oestrogen in the food chain.

Now that's just baiting...

So BB how do you want it, a Woman’s Tee? Woman’s start half way around the course? Just do it, Tiger did.

Nope, no special treatment. Once again, and I really do tire of saying this, JUST EQUALITY PLEASE!!! And by that I mean I would appreciate, upon boarding someone else's boat, to be treated with the same amount of respect and faith as any other crew member. And if that means giving me sh*t for f**king up, in the same way you would give a guy sh*t if he fucked up, then by god I expect to be given the same sh*t!!!

And the rest of the post doesn't relate to me. Apart from something about bags. Which I don't think I'll deal with here. It might scare the 8 unemployed ignorant old fuckers.
