Kindly learn to read before entering into a conversation with me. I said 'the same amount of respect as any other crew member'. Not more, not less. Perhaps more if I win. And less if I f*ck up the kite hoist.

Errr, Dry Reach if you learned to read a bit more carefully and not go off prematurely you'll see that I am quite prepared for you to live your life anyway you choose to. I don't make any assumptions about what you do, or do not, do in real life. The only thing I judge you on is what you type ..... and might I point out that there's an awful lot of that.

I care not whether you do or don't sail, with or without a partner. I don't care if the people who may or may not be on any boat with you are good or not. I don't care if they're female or not. You do what you wanna do.

Me, I'll continue to share my boating experience with my wife and encourage her to be an active and competent sailor equally capable of managing and sailing the boat and equally skilled as I aspire to be or even moreso.

If you actually read what I wrote you'd see that I said that one did not need to have a pair of testicles to use sandpaper. I didn't say that you use your testicles on sandpaper. If you've done that, then a) you're kinda pervy; B) you're kinda masochistic; and c) you're kinda adventurous ... though possibly not that bright. Just for the record, you're better off using the sandpaper on a sanding block or longboard rather than using your hands ... but I'm sure you knew that :)

In answer to your original question (where's my sense of humour?) .... I haven't had a sense of humour failure at all. If you're reading that into my post, then you're assuming intonation that isn't there. You're pretty quick to point out the assumptions of others ... maybe you should look at your own posts.

Dear Mr Grinna. It is with no pleasure that i have to inform you that your comment that you make "no Assumptions" (above) is totally blown out of the water with you following assumptions... If you've done that, then a) you're kinda pervy; B) you're kinda masochistic; and c) you're kinda adventurous ... though possibly not that bright.

Soooo... your credability is shot there Mr Grinna with yet more assumptioins. unless of course you know me?.

Secondly if one, Mr Grinna, did not care about what i do or not do, then why did you comment??

Thirdly why was the last paragraph (about my ability to use sandpaper) even written if you say i am the person you imply me to be. i think that comment reflects more on the writer than the recipient.

lastly, and to the point, were "again" did i say i don't sail with my partner?

and where did i bag you? other than to point out your gramatical error, as it pertained to the use of sandpaper and testicles. :D

Cheers :D

Clipper - you seem to have confused the desire for equality with feminism - a common misconception, especially among bitter old men who see no need to change the status quo as it suits them just-fine-thank-you-very-much.

Maybe I have confused desire for equality with feminism. If I have, its in the way the message is delievered, not the mesage itself.

Maybe you take your unfortunate experiences as licence to slag off ALL men, not just the ones you've had trouble with.

Is that not trolling?

Just had to do a count-up, luckily this comment is a near-miss on me but some of you other f*ckers in the top eight should perhaps take the opportunity to have a long hard look at yourselves.

Indeed AA, sailing isn't for everyone, nor should it be forced upon anyone who is unwilling to take part. To each their own. But it may well be the case that many wives and girlfriends do not get involved in sailing, much to the disappointment of their partners, because of their partners' attitudes towards women on board.

I personally have experienced a far higher prevalence of sexism and bigoted behaviour among the sailing fraternities of the world than in any other sport I have taken part in. And that includes traditionally 'male dominated' sports like snowboarding, mountain biking, rock climbing... all high-testosterone, high-muscle activities. But the difference is, I have been accepted as an equal by my male counterparts in all of them. Except sailing.

My message here is only to those who continue to think of sailing, and yes Squid, in particular yacht racing, as a 'male domain', and either do what they can to protect it, or simply don't think beyond their own selfish needs that their behaviour might be having a negative impact on others - namely, every promising and enthusiastic female sailor out there who simply needs a level playing field and a bit of positive encouragement to get involved. Not sexist comments the like of which I ofund on this thread.

There, did I do good DR? I managed not to swear OR mention genitalia!

Nice!

Go south and you will not find the "Aucklandized " "anti Female" style!

You see it in Team NZ and the Americas cup! it's a white man dominated ego fest! and NZ is the worst at it.

crikey even the yanks embraced a Kiwi Girl named Leslie Egnot in the AC!

This sexism is generated through their "Percieved" Dominance in the sport and the biased support they get from YNZ. It is a Historical "hand me down" als (from the Keep the woman at home era)" This support gives the Auckland crowd a sense of power and yet most of our best sailors came from South of the Bombays!

The whole culture is medievil  and its not just biased against woman! it's biased against dark skinned people and people from poor suburbs / sectors / ethnic groups. yet if we had this "majority's input and involvement we may actually learn a lot and get big number through or into the sport!

God help us if we ever let saw these people being helped or mingling with the Squady crowd :wtf:

Yet the NZ white people are in demise and the Asian / PAcific islanders are the future of all sport!

Down south we have very little support from the governing body and just move with the times and work things out on the smell of a oily rag. (while all the Sparc funding goes to rich kids sailing in europe)

Sorry to rant.

What an absolute crock of sh*t.

BB ,far higher sexism? Bigoted behaviour? Seriously You do your sex a major disservice. There are plenty of woman out there in yacht racing who are achieving plenty. Just because you aren’t seeing them doesn’t mean they aren’t out there. The ones who are though, are generally far to busy doing it to get involved in this crappy site where 8 unemployed ignorant old fuckers each with three identities pass the time of day. Anyway most girls just don’t like getting all wet and sweaty, and so apart from getting out for a Friday night race, where are they? Come to think of it most of the blokes are like that now too, must be all the oestrogen in the food chain. So BB how do you want it, a Woman’s Tee? Woman’s start half way around the course? Just do it, Tiger did.

Dry Reach?, is that from blowing your boyfriend?

White men cant jump! Your chip really is showing, so how many Tongan helmsman are there in Bluff then? Its all those horrid Jaffa’s fault that a girl hasn’t helmed our AC boats and that half the crew aren’t PI or Maori. Bullshit. Its because it takes ages and costs plenty to get to any sort of level in our sport, not just eating taro and drinking coke. And the sad reality of our society is that Maori and PI are over represented in our jails and under represented in yacht racing, and the number of women who want to compete is small. Any one can, they just gota want to enough, same as the rest of life. And if you want to open up that can of worms as to why, you better be prepared for the answers.

Yes Plenty of great sailors from south of the Bumbays, (mostly because they are good semen and can sail in more than 20knts unlike Jaffas) but don’t blame the Jaffa’s and Squaddy for the lack of turbans or Muslim Veils in the sport, that’s just dumb.

PS BB Are you a one bagger, or two, nice chassis but photo please!

Hey Brucey.

Are you any relation to George W Bush.

your taro and coke comment would not go down with some of the polynesian sports people who have achieved more than yo will ever. (in you racist white world)

you, are the reason why people like BB feel alienated from the sport.

You, are the reason many races see our sport as a rich white man sport.

you are also the reason our sport is not growing at a great rate and our level of world achievment has dropped off.

and you are the reason the marine industry has died and we no longrer build production boats and have lower sales through our marine industry.

Just open your mind and look at where the future people and income will come from! Not from the reducing "white man" but from the woman (who are the bread winners and have the money.( IE Jan CAmeron for example) )and from the asians who have the $$$.

**Sigh...** Right, let me take this one point at a time...

So BB how do you want it, a Woman’s Tee? Woman’s start half way around the course? Just do it, Tiger did.

Nope, no special treatment. Once again, and I really do tire of saying this, JUST EQUALITY PLEASE!!! And by that I mean I would appreciate, upon boarding someone else's boat, to be treated with the same amount of respect and faith as any other crew member. And if that means giving me sh*t for f**king up, in the same way you would give a guy sh*t if he fucked up, then by god I expect to be given the same sh*t!!!

And the rest of the post doesn't relate to me. Apart from something about bags. Which I don't think I'll deal with here. It might scare the 8 unemployed ignorant old fuckers.

Ah ...............so its respect you want. No thats earnt not given just because youre a girl and you want to be treated like a boy. If youve earnt it you will get it, not before same as everyone else.

PS I'll respect you in the morning

Brucey... i don't think you will ever get the chance to wake up next to a woman let alone a woman with strong convictions! so hang on to the teddy bear aye!

I only have one identity? and Im not that old or unemployed? Nice boat - good acquisition.

...The thing is Bimini - how do I really know that you are not in fact DR logged on as Bimini Babe (or Brucey?) via his 'other pc' and arguing with himself incessantly as he likes to do. I mean - does Wheels even exist?

Or you could be .......BS for all I know?

...and I'm about to ask you to PM me a pic of your porn watching sister?

If you are in fact a middleaged businessman sitting at home wearing a swim cap with leg holes cut in it as very tight elastic hot pants, spanking on about the old days of F15s or when management consultancy was really good and Nam and stuff..... then lets leave it at that. I'm not sure I want to date your sister although she does look cute and sweet from what I can see. :)

Hey Brucey.

Are you any relation to George W Bush.

Cheers :D

George Doubbewya, yea bro he ma bruda,

The Taro and Coke has gone down with many more than havent! But as I said anyone can do anything, they have just got to want to, and that is all about the role models they worship or respect.

you, are the reason why people like BB feel alienated from the sport.

You, are the reason many races see our sport as a rich white man sport.

you are also the reason our sport is not growing at a great rate and our level of world achievment has dropped off.

Your comments confuse me.

So now because I am prepared to say it like it is it is all my fault?

You my friend are what is wrong with so many in this country. Its all someone else’s fault. My father didnt read to me when I was a child! Someone didn’t show me respect when I came on their boat? What the...? Our level of world achievement has dropped? Since when? The Marine industry has died? I’m pretty sure most of the industry I talk to are having a fine old time of it, pull ya finga out.

I know this will come as quite a surprise, but this is a rich sport, cos when 10 people decide to "play" they need a boat not just a ball. I see no reason I should feel responsible or guilt for belonging to the demographic which is both most able to, and active in the sport. This is not a sport that has lots of opportunity to play around and learn, that in the majority of cases requires both significant parental drive and sacrifice to achieve any involvement by kids. How the sport makes itself attractive and valid to kiwis of the future is thankfully not my problem, but people who find as much wrong with it and allways someone else to blame for it, are much of it IMO!

Can I suggest that anyone who blames some imaginary "Aucklandized " "anti Female" style! or to quote Dry Reach

The whole culture is medievil and its not just biased against woman! it's biased against dark skinned people and people from poor suburbs / sectors / ethnic groups. yet if we had this "majority's input and involvement we may actually learn a lot and get big number through or into the sport!

Is so out of touch you probably don’t actually go sailing, but sit at your computer doing some virtual sh*t. Most of the sailors, Squady and otherwise I know are just plain old Kiwis, Tradespeople, marine industry workers, office workers and nurses…… infact I suggest that more of the most campaigned boats are owned by hands on types than Doctors, but they are almost invariably driven and high achievers, or they would just be down the pub or sitting at home on the computer having a hand shandy like some others.

And as for the “anti female style” you mention, I don’t know who BB is hanging with but most of the sailors I have meet are more than happy to keep drinking rum until every woman is a beautiful and desirable creature, so if you are feeling alienated, buy another round, we’ll love you long time. .

Well Done, Clint.

I've often seen Wimoweh out on the harbour, and hope you will enter the odd race or four :) The Upto26club is a good place to start with boats and sailors of all levels, and the Tracker association is also strong, of which I'm sure you are now aware.

And as for the thread drift, I've NEVER seen drift so far off topic.

But this is a forum where we like to wax lyrical about ourselves, our opinions, our pet hates, our political alliances and all sorts of other interesting and sometimes not-so-interesting topics. Most of it is light hearted but can get a little heated. And we should all remember that it's sailing and yachts which are our common ground. It is rather presumptuous to assume that the person posting directly before or after you also shares your political or social views, your ideas on how to drink rum, or that a 930 is definitely superior to an 88.

Once I saw written that a person who wishes to keep friends never discusses politics or religion...

Maybe we need another crew party? For group moral and unity of course. But can it wait till December when I'm home??

Absolutely not. I demand a party now. And you all have to do what I say. Or I'll cry.
