Richmond 2
VAGABONDS AND LADIES A glimpse back at some of Auckland’s Sailing History. To help lead into the 75th Anniversary of the club being at Westhaven, we have arranged an evening to hear a little about the “South Sea Vagabond.” Tony Stevenson of the Tino Rawa Trust will be the guest speaker at our August Social Dinner. Tony will be telling us some of the history of the yacht Ngataki and her sailing adventures in Auckland and the Pacific Ocean Seventy Five years ago. Ngataki was built by Johnny Wray in the 1930’s and sailed extensively around New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. Johnny’s book “The South Sea Vagabond” was recently re-released and is available from Boat Books. Tony has a great selection of photos and will take some interesting excerpts from Ngataki’s “Ship’s Log” The Ngataki has a long and colourful history and Tony is a great speaker, so I am sure you will all have a most enjoyable evening. Bar opens at 6pm, dinner at 6.30pm, Presentation at 7.30pm Menu for the night: Beef Curry, Butter Chicken, Bananas in coconut, Raita, Green Beans, Rice, Naan Bread and Pickles. $20.
