Guest Posted August 16, 2010 Share Posted August 16, 2010 Yesteday afternoon I saw an extreme example of getting the longest service out of a length of 12 mm mooring chain. Sorry no photo. It was lying on the dock in all it's glory. I found the thinnest link, and snapped it by twisting the links without even putting my back into it. Probably 2 mm left. He thought maybe he should look at the bow chain as well!!!! Link to post Share on other sites
Guest Posted August 16, 2010 Share Posted August 16, 2010 If by 'bow chain' you mean the chain that actually connects to the boat 'the top chain', it could be even worse. Top chains are 12/13mm but 99% of the time the next one down is 16 or even 20mm, knot 12mm. Either way 2mm is in the full spooky zone by anyones standard. Got a goodie at the office.
