Contact me if you are interested: viki.moore@xtra.co.nz The dates are as follows: 20-21 November for Level 2 26-27 March for Level 3 Coastguard Coastal Medic (Level 2) $225.00 per person This course has been designed to teach you the skills, and give you the confidence to manage an emergency or medical event where limited equipment is available and help is up to 24 hours away. This course is a prerequisite to attending the Offshore Marine Medic course. Duration 16 hours over 2 days Prerequisites None, but a completed first aid course within the last 5 years is preferable. Qualification Coastguard Boating Education Service Marine Medic (Coastal), NZQA units 6400, 6401, 6402, Maritime New Zealand commercial first aid, STCW Elementary (on request)* * A service fee may apply Expiry Date 2 years from date of completion Modules • Trauma Identification and Assessment • Medical Emergencies • Evacuation and Medical Assistance • Casualty Resuscitation – including an introduction to Defibrillation • Managing Shock • Treating Internal & External Bleeding • Managing Torso Injuries • Managing Burns Emergencies • Managing Fractures • Managing Soft Tissue Injuries • Head, Neck, Spinal Injury Stabilisation • Managing Environmental Injuries • Managing Minor Wounds • Managing Minor Ear and Eye Injuries Holders of a current Coastal Medic certification can attend the Offshore Medic course.. The Offshore Medic course must be completed within four months of completing the Coastal Medic course. On successful completion the Coastal Medic course a student can undertake a further 8 hour correspondence course to gain the STCW95 First Aid at Sea qualification also offered by Yacht Lifeline. Coastguard Offshore Medic (Level 3) $275.00 per person This course is designed to teach you the skills, and give you the confidence to manage serious emergency and medical events, where some equipment is available but help is 4 to 5 days away. The course is suitable for those travelling offshore. Students on this course learn how to manage a trauma casualty or a medical patient onboard for up to 5 days, using as a minimum a Category 1 medical kit. Duration 16 hours over 2 days Prerequisites A current Coastal Medic course; completed within the previous 4 months. Completion of an STCW95 Elementary Course undertaken with Yacht Lifeline through the NZ Maritime School is also acceptable. Qualification Coastguard Boating Education Service Marine Medic (Offshore) Expiry Date 2 years from date of completion Modules • Advanced Airway Management • Oxygen Therapy • Managing a Tension Pneumothorax • Fluid Resuscitation • Medical Assessment • Medications Administration • Closing Wounds by Suturing On successful completion of this course the student can undertake a further 8 hour crossover correspondence course to gain the STCW95 First Aid at Sea qualification Coast Guard Offshore Medic Crossover to STCW 95 Taking from as little as 8 hours this correspondence program allows for cross over from the Coastguard Marine Medic program directly to the STCW95 medical qualification. A workbook and copy of the Shipmaster’s Medical guide is supplied. Certification is offered to STCW95 First Aid at Sea level if you successfully complete the Coastal Medic and Offshore Medic Programs as well as the crossover course within a 4 year period.
