I’m Jessie, British / Austrian, London-based, 35 years old. I’ve taken some time out from my career in government to get out on the water and give my sailing a boost. After many years of holidays spent crewing with skipper friends, I’ve just completed the RYA Day Skipper course and am looking for an opportunity to join a longer trip  to practise my skills, gain confidence, make the most of my time off work, and enjoy an adventure. I'd ideally like to find something in NZ so I can also visit friends for Christmas afterwards.

What I’m looking for

  • An opportunity to join a boat as crew between mid-October to end December 2023

  • Open to any location, especially where it’s warm! Happy to fly anywhere for the right opportunity, preferably for a minimum of 3- 4 weeks sailing

  • An option to include a longer passage- eg. transatlantic- of particular interest

  • Ideally with a small, friendly crew and opportunities to learn

  • Not looking for paid positions, just boat expenses covered

  • Luxury not required, but keen to have my own cabin

What I can offer

  • Sailing qualifications: RYA Day Skipper, UK / Grundschein, Austria (equiv. To RYA Dinghy Level 2)

  • Sailing experience: 7 weeks / 1500 nm / crewing variety of boats on cruising trips in the UK, Mediterranean and East Africa

  • Competent with all crew jobs, some navigation and night-watch experience

  • No seasickness, no dietary requirements, physically fit, no medical issues

  • Non-smoker, no drugs, enjoy alcohol when it’s available

  • Very able in the galley and with provisioning, I love good, fresh food

  • Confident swimmer, trained lifeguard, happy to clean hull, dive to stuck anchors etc

  • Speak fluent English, French, German, Arabic

  • Easygoing, adaptable, happy to socialise with all sorts of people, can also quietly enjoy my own company on a night watch. I love all things outdoors and am musical (but promise not to turn up with a guitar!)

I’m looking to firm up my plans asap. Please feel free to contact me or forward this to anyone relevant; I am open to suggestions. jessiebeham@gmail.com / +44 7759 068515

Hi Jesse, if you find yourself over here in NZ and want to get out on the Hauraki Gulf then get in touch.

Check out my post here for day sails or weekend trips on my catamaran.

We have a great bunch that enjoys sailing and time on the water.

Let me know if you're interested.

Hi I have a Whiting 40 and sail the Hauraki Gulf, Great Barrier, Kawau, Coromandel, Waiheke etc.

If the weather is good I might get over to the Mercury islands for a few days.

The yacht sleeps 8 but a good number is 3 - 4.

I will be sailing when ever possible from now until April 2024

Bring something to eat and drink and help with the sailing.

Call me / whats app if you are interested.
