Laser/Opti gear wanted for South Pacific Youth Club

Hi,

My name is Ron and I’m involved with the Junior Sailing Club in Savusavu, Fiji.

This is a club which trains young local sailors and is active every Saturday, open to all girls and boys from the community, who are welcome to sail and race, free of charge.

We have managed to maintain a fleet of Optimists for many years, supported by local businesses, the yachting community, and volunteer coaches and maintenance people. As many of the young kids have outgrown the Optimists, we have recently acquired a number of Lasers for them. Most of the boats and gear have been purchased second hand, and the gear is in constant need of replacement.

I will be sailing to Savusavu in early May and would like to put out a call to any individuals or clubs who might have Laser or Optimist gear/sails which they can spare and still has plenty of life left in it, or can be repaired and brought back to life (I have a workshop and sail repair facilities). If you can donate – I will be happy to transport it up there.

Is will be greatly appreciated by the kids and the local community who are very proud of their world-class sailors, who have competed in National and International events.
