rigger 47 Posted March 4, 2011 Share Posted March 4, 2011 From Lat 38 Another Pirate Attack on a Yacht March 4, 2011 – Pirate-Infested Waters No one knows exactly how Somali pirates find their prey, but it would seem prudent to 'run dark' anywhere near the region. - latitude / ld One way is by radio transmissions: - so if you have an AIS unit that transmit your position - turn it off. - VHF - do not use it to transmit unless you are in need of help - Also if they have a captured ship and soemone that knows how to use the ships radar, they might be able to pick up distant vessels in good conditions. - not to mention officials in other countries that may accept bribes from the pirates to provide information on departing vessels. - using internet access the get the yachts positions from various websites ......
