John Guzzwell and his exploits

John Guzzwell,

As one of the Old Farts who read the update on J.G., I was racing to Suva in 1956 when he arrived in NZ in Trekka. My parents lived at Sunny Bay Kawau Is. and dad was amused to see a little keelboat sailing into Bon Accord Hbr. taking soundings with a leadline. He hopped into his runabout and towed him in and put him on my mooring before taking him ashore for a shower and a feed. Of course he didn't stay at Kawau long, but years later was back in his 45 footer Treasure. We saw Trekka in the museum in Victoria (Canada) in 87 and I think J.G. bought the Brin Wilson built One Tonner Pathfinder when she was cruised to Canada, for his wife, I was told. Guzzwell also featured in the book "Once is enough" by Brigadeer Smeaton.
