Blackfun at QTC 2012

With new owner, Rob Gray at the helm, Blackfun is sitting in 3rd place after day 1.

In the lead is Peter Morton in Bullit (1979 QT Champion, San Remo).

Since owning Blackfun, Rob has changed the keel (No. 5 for the boat), moved the tiller aft and several other changes.

A month ago they competed in the Vice Admirals Cup. In the light conditions of the first 2 days, she couldn't sail out of her own way. She cleaned up in 15 knots.

Back into the shed. Move the mast back. Bigger headsail, more roach on the main and a bigger kite.

Nothing like a committed owner.

Shame to see Blackfun slip down the standings last night, got Blackflagged in race 6. But seems that they have the boat sailing pretty well - from that interview with the owner it was interesting to hear more about the changes, the bulb keel is gone and they have more sail area overall for the same IRC rating. It is amazing to see how much effort and $$$ goes into these boats.
