Rowdy 3
All is set for the 2012 Central Region Interclub Champs and it looks like it is going to be a close run affair again this year. With racing taking place directly off the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club in Wellington's Stadium of Sailing (Lambton Harbour), it will be a great event for both competitors and spectators. The weekend will see 80 sailors coming from as far away as New Plymouth and Taupo combining into 8 teams for this annual event, it really does show that New Zealand's regional Interclub rivalry is still alive and well. The regatta is run with each club entering an MRX keelboat team and an E6 youth team. A round robin draw is organised where each MRX team sails fleet races against the other clubs while the E6 team sails a seperate fleet race against the same clubs. The way the draw operates allows each club to race against every other club at least once, and you often see the big rivalry amongst some clubs play out into some intense battles. One of the most impressive things about this event is the way that many of the clubs manage to put together a competitive and cohesive team in such a small time. Many of the clubs involved normally sail dinghy and trailer yachts with a maximum of four crew on board, so stepping up into the bigger 10 metre MRX keelboats with six crew on board makes for some really interesting crew discussions with everyone having an opinion. The entry list is: Evans Bay Yacht & Motor Boat Club Lake Taupo Yacht Club New Plymouth Yacht Club Paremata Boating Club Plimmerton Boating Club Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club Wanagnui Sailing Club Worser Bay Boating Club
