Suitable barge, $250,000
assume $0 value at the end of 10 years
Staff, 4 @ 75,000 pa, $300,000
Operating days per year, 150
Daily plant operating cost inc maintenance allowance, $2000, $300,000pa
Licences, fees etc, $2000 pa
Legals and accounting, $10,000 pa
Gross daily cost, no alliance for capital, profit line, tax etc, say $4500
1400 wrecks, projected 10 year period so 1 per day average
High risk activity, time limited, no exit strategy so 150% nett profit would be reasonable.
Each wreck would be in the region of $12 to $15k average to make it work.
Maybe the mooring service guys might take it on, but it's not money for jam.
🤔😩

Mooring fees don't pay for that though. There is no part of the fee set aside for this. The fees essentially go into council's consolidated fund and then the HM is funded from that. No special jar labelled "getting rid of old shitters fund" that only gets income from mooring fees.
Ash. I do recall that when that fee, $50 pa was added it was specifically to address the abandoned boats issue around Auckland. There may be a thread on Crew about that, from several years ago.

My query was more about the unbalanced IMHO reporting, inferring that local council was paying for it all
There was no mention of the fact that we as mooring owners were paying for the wrecks to be recovered

Other than chasing owners with a written warning to pay their fees, does HM ever do anything to collect outstanding money?
-
The issue I was making was mainly in relationship to the public perception that the general city population was paying for this through rates, which is clearly not the case. I'm guessing at the number of moorings around Auckland, but it's still bringing in what, a mil per year, plus? Are they spending that annually on the problem? I think not.
-
Very interesting article, HM didn't mention anything about the fact that our mooring fees went up several years ago by $50 pa to cover wreck recovery. Maybe 20,000 moorings x $50 what, around $1m per annum to deal with the problem? They infered that rate payers were paying for it. P!$$ED me off a bit.

Any body had any luck with 3M 5200? I have some over and don't want to waste it.
Will still clean old glue off with MEK/acetone and sand. My 999 has gone off and don't need
half a litre.
I'm after some tender glue too. Do you have any to share, or did I miss the point. Happy to,pay. Probably only need 250mls. Pm me if keen. Nick

The stuff stick like the proverbial $#it to a blanket. Anyone have any idea or tricks on how to remove old glue? Thinners just don't seem to do anything. Old glue has been on maybe 15 years.

A box of beer was a deal then😎

of my dinghy. Is there some rejuvenating spray, or something I can paint over the tubes that would bring a few more years? They're starting to look a little thread bare in places.

Can't say for shore where the zinc came from. Had if a few years. Was pretty solid one.
-
Have a three blade kiwiprop that is a bit worse for wear... Attacked after the wrong zinc anode didn't do what it was supposed to. So after any of the internal parts. Not sure what exactly at this stage.
If anyone has one that's spare please let me know.

I'll give the magic carb cleaner a go, then try for the fuel pump membranes then take It to the workshop.
-
2 stroke, but all good comments, thanks. It was serviced about 6 months ago, out west. I would have thought that the fuel would be clean, and is fresh, but I guess you don't really know. I'll strip down and clean the carb. And go for new pump membranes.

Flooding wasn't the issue, still wont start, but sounds like it's the thing to do. Cheers

Today it decided I needed the exercise rowing to my mooring. That wasn't too bad, it was then return journey against the tide that nearly did me in.
Anyway, I digress. Friday it started no probs. Today, not so much. I did get it to fire for a few seconds. But then, really nothing. Probably flooded the carb, but I'm thinking the main issue might be the fuel pump, fuel delivery. Sounds like not enough getting through to supply carb?
Anyone had similar issues?
There's a couple of membranes the fuel passes through on the way to the carb. Hopefully that'll fix it. It's not the filter, that all works.
TIA for any thoughts, suggestions.

Anyone with a spare bit of ply for a lazarette hatch rebuild. 20 mm x 560 x 440. Cheers
Anyone see the TV article on wrecks tonight?
