  1. Cheers Wheels - had heard something similar"from the other side of the fence". The "go for longer drives in the country" advice was far more appealing anyway!

  2. My mechanic neighbour reckons I should chuck a litre of petrol into my diesel wagon once every 6 months to clear out the injectors on the CR.  Haven't had the balls to yet so maybe I should!

  3. If you have kids then the 'lost' dingy thing seems to happen all the time.

Wow - that’s spooky - i’ve only had to go swimming after our dinghy twice - and both times the kids were on board - and both times one of them was on a stern step? I guess it’s just one of those weird coincidences you get on a boat - a bit like empty rum bottles in the morning - what’s up with that!

  4. No not on the committee - just a club member.  I'll give John a call later today - he's probably listening here anyway!

I'm quite keen to get a social "river raft race" thing going but just haven't had the time to put any effort into it (I'm kicking myself about this double booking but its the only day that works this summer the get together at my place)

  5. Maritime Rule 20.30

22.30 Anchored vessels and vessels aground

    (1) A vessel at anchor must exhibit where it can best be seen—

    (a) in the fore part, an all-round white light or one black ball; and (B) another all-round white light at or near the stern at a lower level than the light in the fore part; BUT if the vessel is less than 50 metres in length it may exhibit an all-round white light where it can best be seen instead of the lights referred to in subparagraphs (a) and (B) of this paragraph.

    (2) A vessel of 100 metres or more in length must also use the available working or equivalent lights to illuminate its decks when at anchor. Any other vessel at anchor may do so also. MNZ Consolidation 1 April 2015 16 Part 22: Collision Prevention

    (3) A vessel of less than 7 metres in length at anchor, not in or near a narrow channel, fairway, anchorage, or where other vessels normally navigate, is not required to exhibit the shape prescribed for a vessel at anchor.

    (4) A vessel aground must exhibit the white light or lights for a vessel at anchor prescribed in rule 22.30 (1), and in addition, where they can best be seen— (a) two all-round red lights in a vertical line; and (B) three black balls in a vertical line.

    (5) A vessel of less than 12 metres in length, when aground, is not required to exhibit the lights or shapes prescribed in 22.30(4) for a vessel aground.

  6. Watching the old GBE forebeam use to always scare me when beating upwind in a blow and chop.  Doing the same yesterday in the T made me very pleased about the size of the forebeam - very very stiff.  Now I just need a bum clean and some decent sails to really make her hum upwind.

  7. Here's the revised plan

    https://www.panuku.co.nz/www/uploads/moduleresourceitems/the-westhaven-plan-095f2884cb.pdf

Fish is basically correct.  The developments get treated in a "first come" submission basis - the masterplan carries no formal or legislated weight and can be modified as necessary.  If Panuku don't want to consider the future blocking off of the Western entrance in this development, surely that's their perogative?  It just means that they'll need to address tidal flows in any submission to block the western entrance more specifically in the future.  They just ignore it in the masterplan, and it also shows a significantly smaller eastern entrance!  You'd actually need to read the entire submission (rather than just one appendix) to see if/how it acknowledges the masterplan

  8. It's been a long time since I looked at this as it no longer interests me, but my recollection was that the original study demonstrated the need to maintain flow through the western entrance and that they were going to do that with a series of culverts or bridge the entrance rather than fill it in.  Perhaps someone can dig up the Masterplan studies.
