Time poor is the main reason ,
The IRC nationals might be at the wrong time of the year?
-
Jonathan , is pretty close to the answer it is the PHRF handicap it is a lottery, Have a look at the PICMARINE GOLD CUP the same yachts show up all the time.on handicap, that is one of the reasons the owners are losing interest, there are owners talking about not doing it next year because there is no chance of getting a good placing under PHRF as it stands at the moment even if your yacht is well sailed
so what is the answer IRC?

race on LAWLESS TheXp44 sport and she has done a lot on hard miles in her 3years and still in good condition with no warranty work so that speaks highly of the structure of the X-yachts am sure yours is the same

great race pity the entries were down , Great ride to White island then on to East cape think most off us got a bit of a touch up there I know we did
Rikki went past us at 22knts just after rounding East island after chasing us on Lawless for the last day

very interesting that 4 out of the seven yachts have IRC handicaps does that say something about the IRC rating ?
-

Check with Rodney At evolution he has the measurements
-
All handicaps have a cost every year just part of racing
But At least the IRC yachts are weighed , hull measurements taken and sail's measured and signed off
PHRF is just a guessing game to a point
think the problem with IRC in Nz is boat owners can't get thee head around it and we don't have the yachts going to Australia or other countries to race like the years gone by so there is no real need to get IRC measured
-
just read the press release on sail-world today
fleet down to 8 could do with 3 more starters by the sounds of it
pity it was not run totally under IRC the fairest handicap going around at the moment

Looks like a very good competitive fleet of 11 yachts (the max allowed)
Racing under IRC and PHRF

I did a race Auckland/Apia on Nutcracker a sister ship in 1981 Thought they were a bit tender. I understand there was 3 ,built the first one went to Tasmania if I remember correctly Jack Williams designed them as a rating boat of the time
