I heard the Predictwind route planner has Romanza breaking the Race record, how accurate are these tools and will it happen??

If the wind stays in it seems like it will be very possible... definitely worth keeping an eye on the tracker over Friday night!

  2. BREAKING NEWS! 🎉
A live prizegiving will be held for the Altex Yacht & Boat Paint 2022 Auckland to Tauranga Race at the Tauranga Yacht and Power Boat Club on Saturday 26th March after the race!!!
Full details will be made available as soon as possible and it will be subject to COVID-19 restrictions, but it's happening!
This means you'll be able to come up to the club after the race, enjoy a drink and a meal, and be awarded your winning prizes in person!

Can you blame them? Sub 35' multihulls in this country have an abysmal record when it comes to falling apart, capsizing or hitting something hard. Just this week another 2 trimarans have sh*t themselves racing.

Take the mickey-mouse outfit. They will never pay a claim but at least you have something to wave at marinas. Think of it as a berthage surcharge

Yep! The trimaran I had been racing on this summer capsized a few weeks ago (thankfully I wasn't racing that night - blessing or curse?), and then talking to a number of people after the incident, it sounds like it's basically impossible to get insurance for them. Two people asked if I wanted to buy it after that........ nope! 😅

We are keen , dependant on passing Cat3 and getting time off work . Nearly a week round trip for us

Don't forget you can leave the boat in Tauranga Bridge Marina rent free for a week if you need to!

  5. Thanks for all the advice, not sure a trash bag is gonna cut it on the bow 😜

Looks like getting a small patch might be the way to go as the inner white lining is still intact. I have also experienced the shedding problem with Henri Lloyd gear - so annoying.

Definitely looking to upgrade to some decent offshore gear but $$$ has me dead.

    Cheers!

  6. Hi all,

I noticed I have a small tear in the outer layer of my Gill wet weather jacket. I'm pretty handy with a needle and thread so won't have any trouble stitching it up but just wanted to check here to see if anyone has any tips before I go poking holes?

    Thanks!

I see Rocky has entered in the fully crewed division, Shimmer is keen too just working on leave pass from various households.
Fully crewed appeals mostly due to the trip back and the chance to race with a few mates.

Hey Open County any chance you guys keen? at least for once you won't have to sail home afterwards!

Adrian has said Open Country is a maybe - just depends on number of entrants and how much work has to be done back in Tauranga I think!

I am looking for a boat to crew on though!

  8. Had a fantastic last few months sailing on General Jackson! Very sad there's no more till January 18th though! :(

If anyone needs a hand over the summer break I will be here! I'm very good at acquiring many, many bruises with no explanation other than "sailing" and I've also been known to bring bottles of rum, chippies, and chocolates! :)

  9. Hey everyone!

I'm new to here, only just discovered it!

My name is Reina, I'm 22 and live in Tauranga. I am free most weekends and am able to take time off work occasionally for longer trips. I love all types of ships, boats, yachts, and just about everything else you can think of that involves the ocean.

I spent a year in the Royal New Zealand Navy during which time I was part of a crew that sailed the Spirit of New Zealand tall ship from Wellington to Newcastle then on to Sydney. In 2015 I spend a couple of months on the tall ship STS Young Endeavour, sailing her from Turkey through the Mediterranean and up to Southampton, UK. I have also done some sailing on small yachts and sail boats.

Hopefully one day I'll have my own yacht and I'll be able to sail off whenever I like but until then, if you or anyone you know needs an extra hand, I'm here! :)
